JP 500 (260-2950( PRIME Operation Faxback Doc. # 15044 The PRIME operation is performed to clear the print head nozzles. If the print quality is not optimal or deteriorates, execute the PRIME operation to improve it. Air bubbles can can block one or more of the print head nozzles and this procedure will clear any blockage. Steps To Prime The Printer: 1. Make sure that the print head is in its rest position at the left hand margin. 2. Press the PRIME button on the top rear left of the printer for at least 3 seconds and release. Repeat this twice. 3 Press Economy/LQ for at least 3 seconds; the print head carriage will move to the head loading position on its shaft. 4 Press the PRIME button and hold it for at least 3 seconds and then release it. Repeat this four to five times. This should improve the print quality. Note: If this does not correct the problem or you are experiencing horizontal white lines across characters, remove and clean the print head. To do this, clean the electrical contacts on the head and in the head chamber with a slightly damp lint-free cloth, taking care not to touch the print head nozzles. If this still does not resolve the problem, try cleaning the print head nozzles. THE FOLLOWING IS ONLY A LAST RESORT BEFORE REPLACING THE PRINT HEAD. Dampen a tissue handkerchief with distilled water and wring to remove excess water. Hold the print head facing downwards and blot it against the handkerchief, pressing lightly. (ABO/all-04/27/95)
