To invoke the self-test on the JP-1000, hold down the INSTALL CARTRIDGE 
key while switching on the printer.  Be sure you have plenty of paper in
the paper tray and the print head is inserted.  With the black cartridge
installed, a four page printout results.   When the color cartridge is
installed, the print test is only one page to test the three colors of the
cartridge, cyan, magenta, and yellow.
