MMS-10 Amplified Speaker System (250-1096) Preparation Faxback Doc. # 17013 CONNECTING TO SOUND SOURCES AND POWER Depending on your computer's output jacks, you need either a shielded audio cable, such as Radio Shack's Cat. No. 42-2351, or a Y-cable (Cat. No. 42-2475) to connect the MMS-10. For assistance in selecting the correct cable, consult your local Radio Shack store. Follow these steps to connect the MMS-10 to your computer and to power. NOTE: Before you begin, be sure to turn off the power to all your computer's components. 1. Plug the audio cable's left channel plug into the MMS-10's INPUT A, L terminal. Then plug the audio cable's right channel plug into the MMS- 10's INPUT A, R terminal. 2. Plug the audio cable's other end into your computer's stereo output jack. 3. If you want to connect an additional audio source, plug the left- and right-channel plugs of an additional audio cable into the MMS-10's INPUT B, R and L terminals. Connect the audio cable's other end to the audio source. NOTE: Adding an auxiliary audio source lets you mix sound from two sources, such as a CD player and a voice presentation. If you are using a computer with enhanced sound, you can connect both your computer's sound and a music card. 4. Plug the power cord into a standard AC outlet or approved power strip. CONNECTING EXTERNAL SPEAKERS You can connect a pair of external speakers to the MMS-10. You must use speakers that are rated at 8 or 4 ohm. Follow these steps to connect the external speakers to the MMS-10. NOTES: We recommend that you use the shortest length of speaker wire possible. For best overall performance, be sure that your speaker wires are properly connected according to their polarity (positive to positive and negative to negative). 1. Split 4 inches of the speaker wire. 2. Remove about 1 inch of insulation from each wire's end. Twist the exposed wire to secure all of the wire strands. 3. Press and hold the EXTERNAL SPEAKER 'R's negative (-) terminal tab and insert the right speaker's negative (-) wire into the opening. Then release the tab. 4. Press and hold the EXTERNAL SPEAKER 'R's positive (+) terminal tab and insert the right speaker's positive (+) wire into the opening. Then release the tab. 5. Repeat Step 1 through 4 to connect the left speaker's wires.
