CDR-1100 (250-1092/259-1092) TCDP.EXE Faxback Doc. # 2400 Playing Compact Discs: Your CDR-1100 not only reads information from data discs, it also lets you play your favorite audio compact discs (CDs). While using your computer to run programs from your computer's hard drive or diskette drive, enjoy the convenience of being able to use either headphones or an external amplifier for your listening pleasure. ┌──────────────────┐ │Using Headphones: │ └──────────────────┘ To listen to your CD with headphones, do the following. 1. Load a CD into the CD-ROM drive. 2. Insert the headphones' 1/8-inch plug into the CDR-1100's headphone jack. 3. Set the volume to the lowest setting by rotating the knob in a counterclockwise direction until it stops. 4. Run the Audio Play Program - TCDP.EXE Hearing Comfort and Your Health: WARNING: To protect your hearing, follow these guidelines when you use headphones. ° Set the volume to the lowest setting before you begin listening. After you begin listening, adjust the volume to a comfortable level. ° Do not listen at extremely high volume levels. Extended high-volume listening can lead to permanent hearing loss. ° Once you set the volume, do not increase it. Over time, your ears adapt to the volume level, so a volume level that does not cause discomfort might still damage your hearing. ┌─────────────────────────────┐ │Using an External Amplifier: │ └─────────────────────────────┘ To listen to your CD with an external amplifier, do the following. 1. Load a CD into the CD-ROM drive. 2. Connect the CD-ROM's output jacks, (the top jack is the right channel and the bottom jack is the left channel) to an external amplifier. 3. Run the Audio Play Program - TCDP.EXE Notes: The audio plays from both the headphone and the audio output jacks when you play an audio disc. ┌────────────────────────┐ │The Audio Play Program: │ (TCDP.EXE) └────────────────────────┘ The CDR-1100 has a built-in Audio Play feature that lets you push the volume button to begin Audio Play. Each push of the button advances the audio program to its next track. You can also play discs by running the Audio Play program from the CDR-1100 Device Driver diskette. The Audio Play program lets you play, stop, pause, and resume the track you want to play. The Audio Play program lets you play CDs in your CD-ROM drive using either a control panel or an MS-DOS line command. If you do not want to insert the device driver diskette each time you play a CD, copy the Audio Play program to a directory on your computer's hard drive. For example, to copy the Audio Play program to an existing directory called DISC, insert the device driver diskette into your a: drive and type: copy a:\tcdp.exe c:\disc and press ENTER Your computer makes a copy of the Audio Play program in the hard drive's DISC directory. Using the Control Panel: The control panel is a graphical display with icons you can select to control the CD-ROM drive. You can use the control panel to play a disc. To display the control panel, go to the directory where the Audio Play program is stored and type: tcdp and press ENTER The control panel appears on the computer's screen. 1. Select an icon using one of the following methods: ° Highlighting the icon with the click of the mouse ° Highlighting the icon with the arrow keys ° Typing the first letter of the icon's name as printed on the following pages. The icon's function appears in the lower right corner of the control panel. 2. Press ENTER or the SPACE BAR, or click the mouse button, to activate the option whose name appears on the control panel. The function of each of the icons shown on the control panel is described below. │> Begin playing the track displayed on the counter (current track), Play or resume playing a track that is paused. If you select no other option, the CDR-1100 plays to the end of the disc and stops. Note: When you activate this icon, the counter displays the current track's elapsed time. ││ Pause the current track. You can also press p on the keyboard to Pause pause the current track. Press p again to resume playing the current track or select │> (play). = Stops playing a CD until you select │> (play) Stop Notes: ° If you select │> (play) after stopping the current track, the drive plays the current track from the beginning. ° You can also press "s" on the keyboard to pause the current track. Press "s" again to resume playing the current track. │< Begin playing the previous (lower numbered) track. While a CD is Back playing, press ENTER. The previous track immediately begins playing and the counter displays the new track number and its elapsed time. If the CD is stopped, press ENTER until the new track number you want appears on the counter. Then select │> (play). The counter displays the new track's elapsed time. Notes: ° If you pause a track, you can select a new track on the counter using │< (back) however, the drive disregards the new track you select and resumes playing the paused track after you select │> (play). ° If you play the CD's first track, selecting │< (back) instructs the drive to find the CD's last track. Then selecting │> (play) lets the drive play the last track. ° If you press "b" while the current track is playing, the cursor momentarily selects │< (back). Then the cursor selects │> (play) and the drive immediately begins playing the previous track. >│ Begin playing the next track. While a CD is playing, Next press Next ENTER. The next track immediately begins playing and the counter displays the new track number and its elapsed time. If the CD is stopped, press ENTER until the new track number you want appears on the counter. Then select │> (play). The counter displays the new tracks elapsed time. Notes: ° If you pause a track, you can select a new track on the counter using >│ (next); however, the drive disregards the track you select and resumes playing the paused track after you select │> (play). ° If you play the CD's last track, selecting >│ (next) instructs the drive to find the CD's first track. Then selecting │> (play) lets the drive play the first track. Note: If you press "n" while the current track is playing, the cursor momentarily selects >│ (next). Then the cursor selects │> (play) and the drive immediately begins playing the next track. << Immediately replay the previous 15 seconds of the current track Reverse and continue playing to the end of the CD. While a track is playing, select << (reverse) and press ENTER. Notes: ° If you press "r" while the current track is playing, the cursor momentarily selects << (reverse). Then the cursor selects │> (play) and the drive immediately replays the current track's previous 15 seconds. ° If you select << (reverse) and press ENTER during the first few seconds of the current track on some CDs, the drive pauses. If this occurs, select │> (play) and press ENTER to continue playing the CD. >> Immediately advances past the next 15 seconds of the current track Forward and continue playing to the end of the CD. While a track is playing, select >> (forward) and press ENTER. Notes: ° If you press "f" while the current track is playing, the cursor momentarily selects >> (forward). Then the cursor selects │> (play) and the drive immediately advances past the current track's next 15 seconds. ° If you select >> (forward) and press ENTER during the first few seconds of the current track on some CDs, the drive might pause. If this occurs, select │> (play) and press ENTER to continue playing the CD. /\ Stop playing a CD until you select │> (play) and press ENTER. If Eject you press "e", the cursor automatically selects /\ (eject) and the CD stops playing. Notes: ° On some CDs, the counter displays a time interval between tracks. The drive counts down the time interval to zero. Then the counter displays the next track's elapsed time. ° To exit the control panel and return to the prompt, press ESC or q to quit. ┌──────────────────────────────┐ │Using An MS-DOS Line Command: │ └──────────────────────────────┘ You can also play CDs by entering an MS-DOS command from your computer's keyboard. The command accepts options to play or stop playing and to pause and resume a track on a CD. To play a CD, do the following. 1. Insert the CDR-1100 Device Driver diskette into our a: drive. Type: a: and then press ENTER. 2. To see the available options for the line command, type: tcdp ? If you already know these options, go to Step 3. The following information appears. Usage: TCDP [ + - s p # ? ] Options + or - Play next or previous song s Start/stop p Pause/unpause # Start song number (# = appropriate track number) ? This is the help screen 3. Type tcdp followed by the option you want to use. Then press ENTER. Example: tcdp + ENTER The line command lets you use these Audio Play program functions: (+)Play Next Song - begin playing the next track. Use this option while the current track is playing or while the CD is stopped. Type: tcdp + and then press ENTER The next track immediately begins playing from the beginning. Note: If you are playing the last track on a CD, type: tcdp + and then press ENTER to play the first track. (-)Play Previous Song - Begin playing the previous track. Use this option while the current track is playing or while the CD is stopped. Type: tcdp - and then press ENTER The current track immediately begins to play from the beginning. Note: If you are playing the first track on a CD, type: tcdp - and then press ENTER to play the last track. (S)Start/stop - Stops playing a CD until you select this option again and press ENTER. tcdp# can also be used to exit this option and begin playing a separate track. (P)Pause/unpause - Stops playing the current track until you select this option again and press ENTER. tcdp# can also be used to exit this option and begin playing a separate track. (#)Start Song Number # - Begins playing the track you specify. Type: tcdp # and then press ENTER. If you select no other option, the CDR-1100 plays to the end of the CD and stops.
