Jumper pair one is closest to the connectors on the rear of the drive. A jumper is a clip that contains metal contacts. To install a jumper, place it over two adjacent pins. This installation connects or bypasses a circuit, enabling or disabling a function of the drive. A jumper can be installed or removed as shown. Decide which drive configuration is best for your system. Refer to the table to install the appropriate jumpers. If you have a PC/XT-compatible computer, such as a Tandy 1000 family computer, you do not need to change the settings of any jumpers. Make sure the jumpers are set to the FACTORY SETTINGS and Proceed to the "Installation" section. This information is for the 9 pin Smartdrive.... ┌─────────────────────────────┬──────────┬───────────────────────────────┐ │ FUNCTION │ JUMPERS │ SETTINGS │ ├─────────────────────────────┼──────────┼───────────────────────────────┤ │Reserved for factory use │ 1 │ Removed * │ ├─────────────────────────────┼──────────┼───────────────────────────────┤ │Drive selection │ 2 │ Installed=primary * │ │ │ │ Removed=secondary + │ ├─────────────────────────────┼──────────┼───────────────────────────────┤ │ │ 3 │ Installed=secondary + │ │ │ │ Removed=primary * │ ├─────────────────────────────┼──────────┼───────────────────────────────┤ │Reserved for factory use │ 4 │ Removed * │ ├─────────────────────────────┼──────────┼───────────────────────────────┤ │Interface selection │ 5 │ Installed=XT interface│ │ │ │ Removed=AT interface *│ ┼──────────┼───────────────────────────────┤ │ │ 6 │ Installed=AT interface│ │ │ │ Removed=XT interface *│ ├─────────────────────────────┼──────────┼───────────────────────────────┤ │Reserved for factory use │ 7 │ Removed * │ ├─────────────────────────────┼──────────┼───────────────────────────────┤ │Reserved for factory use │ 8 │ Removed * │ ├─────────────────────────────┼──────────┼───────────────────────────────┤ │Reserved for factory use │ 9 │ Installed * │ ├─────────────────────────────┼──────────┼───────────────────────────────┤ │* Indicates factory setting. │ │ + Not applicable in an│ │ │ │ XT-type computer. │ └─────────────────────────────┴──────────┴───────────────────────────────┘ Following are some samples of common configurations, with representative computer models in parenthesis: ┌──────────────────────────────────────┬───────────────────────────────┐ │Primary XT Drive (Tandy 1000 RL) * │ No changes. │ ├──────────────────────────────────────┼───────────────────────────────┤ │Primary AT Drive (Tandy 2500) │ Remove Jumper 5 │ │ │ Install Jumper 6 │ ├──────────────────────────────────────┼───────────────────────────────┤ │Secondary AT Drive (Tandy 4020 SX) │ Remove Jumpers 2 and 5. │ │ │ Install Jumpers 3 and 6. │ ├──────────────────────────────────────┴───────────────────────────────┤ │* Note that you can not daisy chain SmartDrives in PC/XT compatible │ │ computers, such as Tandy 1000 family computers. │ └──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘ (rjs/tmc-03/20/95)
