The control panel menu switch and menu windows let you set the printer's paper position, print size, type face, print speed (normal or high), printing color, and font lock. The menu windows are the four rectangular areas above the MENU switch. Each menu window has an indicator, a display (showing a current menu option), and a button (to the right of the display). The options for each menu appear in the displays, depending on the MENU switch setting you choose. The indicators to the left of each display indicate the option's current state; the indicators turn on when the option is active and turn off when the option is inactive. ┌──────────────┐ │ON LINE Menu: │ └──────────────┘ The ON LINE menu lets you select printer functions frequently used for paper handling and for setting the printer on line or off line. ON LINE--allows the printer to accept data from your computer. * To set the printer off line, press the ON LINE option button. Both the ON LINE option indicator and the menu switch ON LINE indicator turn off. * If the printer is on line, the menu switch ON LINE indicator remains turned on, regardless of the menu switch setting. PARK/LOAD--lets you position the paper with the printer off line. When paper is loaded to only the tractor, the paper is parked. You can use this function in three situations: * When the paper is parked (paper is loaded only to the tractor), pressing PARK/LOAD advances the paper to the TOF (top of form) position. * When the paper is in the TOF position, pressing PARK/LOAD advances the paper to the tear-off position. * When the paper is in the tear-off position, press PARK/LOAD retracts the paper to the park position. NOTE: To park the paper, the printer must be operating in the push-tractor mode. LF/FF--lets you advance the paper one line when the printer is off line. Press and hold down LF/FF to begin a form feed to the paper tear-off position. QUIET--lets you select or cancel the quiet printing mode. With the printer off line, press this button for more than two seconds to clear the printer buffer. ┌────────────┐ │PITCH Menu: │ └────────────┘ The PITCH menu lets you set the character pitch in CPI (characters per inch): 10 CPI--lets you select 10 cpi pica pitch. 12 CPI--lets you select 12 cpi elite pitch. 15 CPI--lets you select 15 cpi pitch. PROP--lets you select proportionally spaced pitch. When you turn the printer on, the default setting is 10 CPI. ┌────────────┐ │FONT Menu: │ └────────────┘ The FONT menu lets you select from the printer's four font types: DRAFT--lets you select the standard draft font. ROMAN--lets you select the near-letter-quality Roman font. SANS SERIF--lets you select the near-letter-quality Sans Serif font. COURIER--lets you select the near-letter-quality Courier font. When you turn on the printer, the default setting is DRAFT. ┌────────────┐ │MODE Menu: │ └────────────┘ The MODE menu lets you control other printing features: COLOR--lets you activate color printing when you install the supplied color motor and an optional color ribbon cassette. Press this button while the printer is on line to change or select the printing color. You can also press this button when the printer is off line to cancel or select color printing. HI-SPEED--lets you select or cancel high-speed draft printing. FONT LOCK--lets you select or cancel protection of the current font type setting. When this function is active, your software can not override the font you have selected in the FONT menu. CONDENSED--lets you select or cancel condensed printing mode. In the con- densed mode, 10 cpi is condensed to 17.1 cpi, 12 cpi is condensed to 20 cpi. The MODE menu options are inactive when you turn on the printer. NOTE: The printer can not condense the 15 cpi pitch setting. (dtc/tmc-09/06/95)
