DMP 302 (26-2849) Adjusting the Printer Head Gap Faxback Doc. # 4173 The print head adjustment lever to the left of the ribbon cassette lets you adjust the gap between the print head and the platen for using various paper weights. Adjust the print head according to the paper thickness variations, as listed below: ┌────────────────────────────────────────────────┐ │Paper Setting Position │ ├────────────────────────────────────────────────┤ │12 - 24 lbs 1 │ │Two-part forms 2 │ │Three-part forms 2-3 │ │Four-part forms 3-4 │ │Labels 4-5 │ └────────────────────────────────────────────────┘ Note: When the print head adjustment lever is set to position 5, the printer automatically slows down for better print quality with thicker multi- part forms. If the gap is to narrow, this can cause: ° Paper damage at the left or right margin ° Inaccurate line feeding ° The ribbon to loosen or come off its guide during printing ° Smudging on the paper ° Damage to the print head If the gap is to wide, this can cause: ° Light printing ° Missing characters ° Damage to the print head Caution: The print head must always be as close to the platen as possible; otherwise, damage to the print head could occur. If smudges appear on the paper, set the print head adjustment lever to a higher setting by moving the lever toward the front of the printer.
