DMP 430 (260-1277) Ribbon Replacement Faxback Doc. # 4576 RIBBON REPLACEMENT/INSTALLATION Note: The Ribbon Cartridge Refill (26-1489) has been discontinued. Order the Ribbon Cartridge (26-1296) for replacement ribbons. If the ribbon cassette is already installed, simply check to see that it is properly threaded between the paper and the print head. If the ribbon cassette is not installed, or if it must be replaced due to excessive wear, faint printing, etc., follow this procedure: 1. Set the Power switch to OFF. NOTE: When you turn the power off, any information stored in the Printer's buffer will automatically be lost.) 2. Open the top cover and gently move the print head control lever toward the front of the Printer as far as it will go. 3. Gently move the print head toward the center of the Printer. 4. With your finger tips, pull out the plastic ribbon guide mounted on the nose of the print head. 5. Gently grasp the ribbon cassette at the corners nearest the paper (to- ward the rear of the printer) and remove the cassette by lifting it up- ward. 6. Unwrap the new cassette. 7. Securely insert the plastic ribbon guide, hooked on the ribbon, onto the nose of the print head. 8. Place the protruding pins of the cassette into the cutouts of the side frames; then gently press the cassette down until it is firmly secured by the stopper claws. Note: Do not force the cassette into place! If the cassette is not properly fitted, the cassette knob will not match up with the ribbon drive mechanism. Do not force the cassette down, but fit it in gradually while turning the cassette knob in a clockwise direction. 9. Once the new cassette is installed, tighten the ribbon by rotating the knob located on the right side of the cartridge in a clockwise direction, as indicated by the arrow. 10. Move the carriage back and forth manually to check that the ribbon advances properly. 11. Move the print head control lever toward the rear side of the Printer. 12. Close the top cover. REMEMBER! It is extremely important that the print head is as close to the paper as possible; otherwise, damage to the print head may occur. Simply move the print head control lever toward the paper and move the carriage back and forth until smudging occurs. Then, gradually move the print head away from the paper until smudging stops.
