DMP 2120 (260-2811) Function Selection Settings Faxback Doc. # 4619 The DMP-2120 has no DIP switches; instead, it has non-volatile memory. Whether the printer is turned on or off, it remembers various printer settings, such as word processing or data processing mode. To check or change the settings currently in memory, the printer must be in the setup mode. Setup mode allows you to select options that change the printing style, page format, and other settings. In setup mode, each of the four switches on the control panel functions as labeled above it. These switches are defined as follows: EXIT Press this switch to exit the setup mode and return to ON-LINE:READY. FUNCTION Press this switch to change the functions. ITEM Press this switch to change the items within one function or to start and stop and operation. SELECT Press this switch to select options within one item or to start and stop an operation. NOTES: * Holding down the FUNCTION, ITEM, or SELECT switch automatically selects the respective functions, items, or options sequentially. * Once the printer is in the setup mode, all data the buffer, line counter, and so on is re-initialized. SETUP MODE Setup is performed in three levels: 1. Function 2. Item 3. Option At the function level, the LCD displays FUNCTN: and the name of the function. Example: When the display shows FUNCTN:STYLE:, the function is STYLE. or When the display shows FUNCTN:SAVE, the function is SAVE. (This function stores a selected option in the non-volatile memory of the printer.) At the item level, the LCD displays both the item and the selectable option. Example: When the display shows QUALITY:LETTER, the function is STYLE, the item is QUALITY, and the selected option is LETTER. or When the display shows LANGUGE:USA, the function is STYLE, the item is LANGUGE, and the selected option is USA. An asterisk (*) is displayed in the last position of the LCD if the selected option is already stored in the non-volatile memory of the printer. FUNCTION MODE To enter the setup mode, hold down the RESET/ALT switch and press SETUP. The display briefly shows SETUP MODE, then FUNCTN:STYLE. In the function (FUNCTN) mode, the display shows FUNCTN: followed by one of these functions: STYLE, SAVE, LIST, SELF TST, HEX DUMP, or DEFAULT. When the function you want is displayed, press ITEM. ITEM MODE To enter the item mode, press ITEM when the display shows the function you want. In the item mode, the display shows the name of an item, such as QUALITY: or LANGUGE:, followed by the name of an option that is currently selected, such as LETTER or DRAFT. There are several different items you might select in the STYLE function. However, if you choose one of the other five functions, you select a single action (SAVE, LIST, SELF TST, HEX DUMP, or DEFAULT). STYLE FUNCTION SELECTIONS When the display shows FUNCTN:STYLE, press ITEM to enter the function STYLE. To change an item, press ITEM again. The display shows the next item and its currently selected option. Example: When QUALITY:LETTER is on the display, the selected option for the item QUALITY is LETTER. To change the selection, press the RESET/SELECT switch until the option you want is displayed; then press ITEM. Your selection is set until power is turned off, unless you save the selected options before turning off the printer. After you choose an option for a given item, the next item is shown on the display. Again, an option can be selected. The following chart provides an explanation of the items and selectable options in the STYLE function: STYLE Function Selectable Options ┌────┬────────────┬───────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐ │ No.│ Item │ Selectable Option (STYLE Function) │ ├────┼────────────┼───────────────────────────────────────────────────────┤ │ 1 │ EMULATE: │ Command emulation: │ │ │ │ IBM - IBM emulation │ │ │ │ TANDY* - TANDY emulation mode │ ├────┼────────────┼───────────────────────────────────────────────────────┤ │ 2 │ PROCESS: │ Process │ │ │ │ DP* - Data Processing mode │ │ │ │ WP - Word Processing mode (only in Tandy emulation │ │ │ │ mode) │ ├────┼────────────┼───────────────────────────────────────────────────────┤ │ 3 │ QUALITY: │ Print quality: │ │ │ │ LETTER* - Letter quality is valid for Courier 10, │ │ │ │ Prestige Elite 12 │ │ │ │ Draft - Draft quality is a resident font in the │ │ │ │ printer │ ├────┼────────────┼───────────────────────────────────────────────────────┤ │ 4 │ FONT: │ Print font: │ │ │ │ COUR 10* - Courier 10 │ │ │ │ PRSTG 12 - Prestige Elite 12 │ │ │ │ DLLNo.4 or DLLNo.5 - Font 4 or font 5 in the │ │ │ │ download RAM │ ├────┼────────────┼───────────────────────────────────────────────────────┤ │ 5 │ CHR SET: │ Character set: │ │ │ │ SET 2 - Uses IBM printer character set 2 (Only in │ │ │ │ IBM emulation mode) │ │ │ │ SET 1 - Uses IBM printer character set 1 │ │ │ │ TANDY* - Uses TANDY printer character set (Only in │ │ │ │ Tandy emulation mode) │ ├────┼────────────┼───────────────────────────────────────────────────────┤ │ 6 │ 5BH-5EH: │ TANDY - Characters 5BH-5EH are arrow symbols │ │ │ │ ASCII* - Characters 5BH-5EH are ASCII codes │ ├────┼────────────┼───────────────────────────────────────────────────────┤ │ 7 │ ATTRIB: │ Character attribute: │ │ │ │ NONE* - Standard character │ │ │ │ ITALICS │ │ │ │ ELONGTD - Elongated │ │ │ │ CONDNSD - Condensed │ │ │ │ BOLD │ │ │ │ ENHANCD - Enhanced │ ├────┼────────────┼───────────────────────────────────────────────────────┤ │ 8 │ COLOR: │ Printed color: │ │ │ │ AUTOSEL* (Computer mode. If you do not perform this operation, your selections are lost when power is turned off. Saved selections are indicated by an asterisk (*) in the last position of the display. LIST FUNCTION When the display shows FUNCTN:LIST and either the ITEM or RESET/SELECT button is pressed, the display briefly shows all selected options. This function is provided for checking the parameters currently stored in the RAM by the STYLE function. It does not display the contents of non-volatile memory. Therefore, to check whether the parameters are correctly stored in non-volatile memory, execute this function after turning power off and on. If, during the LIST process, either the ITEM or RESET/SELECT button is pressed, the listing stops and the display shows the last item and option shown before pressing the button. If either the ITEM or RESET/SELECT button is pressed again, the selected options continue to be listed. Press the FUNCTION button to return to the FUNCTN level. HEX DUMP FUNCTION When the display shows FUNCTN:HEX DUMP and either the ITEM or RESET/SELECT button is pressed, the printer enters its HEX DUMP mode and the display shows HEX DUMP:READY. All subsequent data sent to the printer is printed in hexadecimal and the display changes to HEX DUMP:BUSY. One print line contains values for 16 characters. If, during the HEX DUMP printing operation, either the ITEM or RESET/SELECT button is pressed, the display shows PAUSE and the printer stops printing. If either the ITEM or RESET/SELECT button is again pressed when PAUSE is displayed, hexadecimal printing continues. Press the FUNCTION button to return to the FUNCTN level. DEFAULT FUNCTION When the display shows FUNCTN:DEFAULT and either the ITEM or RESET/SELECT button is pressed, the display briefly shows Setting Default, and then FUNCTN:DEFAULT is displayed. During this operation, the printer sets all currently selected options to the factory default settings. Press the FUNCTION button to return to the FUNCTN level. Note: The following parameters are not changed by this function: * Emulation * Left end position offset * TOF offset (smm/BKL-10/22/96)
