You should use the default setting with communications software in most cases. Please note the following exceptions and change the switch settings if re- quired before you install the modem into your computer. *AUTO-ANSWER Switch 3 controls the auto-answer operation. In the ON position, the modem is set to answer the phone automatically. When the modem needs to share the phone line with people, it is probably better to turn auto-answer off by set ting Switch 3 to OFF. The modem can then be set to auto-answer via software.
