DWP 520 (260-2800) Dip Switch Settings Faxback Doc. # 4816 You'll find the DIP switches inside the Printer. Just lift the front view cover and they are easily visible. These switches should be set while the power is still OFF because, with the exception of NO. 2 and 3, the DIP switches determine the initial status of the Printer at power ON. The following functions can be exchanged by the switches: SWITCH SETTING SWITCH│ FUNCTION │ ON │ OFF │ NORMAL * ──────┼────────────────────┼────────────────┼─────────────────┼──────────── 1 │ Code Set Select │ IBM mode │ Tandy mode │ OFF │ │ │ │ 2 │ New Line │ CR Only │ CR + LF │ OFF │ │ │ │ 3 │ Self Test │ Self-Test │ Disabled │ OFF │ │ Operation │ │ │ │ │ │ 4 │ Print Direction │ Unidirectional │ Bidirectional │ OFF │ ├────────────────┴─────────────────┼──────────── 5,6, │ Print Wheel Select │ See Chapter 4 for these DIP │ │ │ switch settings. │ 7 │ │ │ OFF ──────┴────────────────────┴──────────────────────────────────┴──────────── * Normal indicates the position of each switch when you first unpack your new DWP-520. SETTING THE DIP SWITCHES The DIP switches are inside the Printer. Lift up the front view cover to gain access to these switches. ┌─────────────────────────────┐ │ ┌─┐ ┌─┐ ┌─┐ ┌─┐ ┌─┐ ┌─┐ ┌─┐ │ ON = 1 │ │ │ │ │ │ │ │ │ │ │ │ │ │ │ │ │ ├─┤ ├─┤ ├─┤ ├─┤ ├─┤ ├─┤ ├─┤ │ │ └─┘ └─┘ └─┘ └─┘ └─┘ └─┘ └─┘ │ OFF = 0 │ 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 │ └─────────────────────────────┘ 1. Code Set Select 2. New Line 3. Self Test 4. Print Direction 5,6,7. Print Wheel Select The Printer is internally set when initialized (power is turned ON) according to the switch positions. Before using the Printer, read the following descriptions of each switch function and check that the switch positions are correctly set. Note that the switches are all set to OFF before shipment from the factory. CODE SET SELECT: NO. 1 This switch selects the code set to be used. When set to OFF, the Tandy mode is selected. When ON, the IBM mode is selected. NEW LINE: NO. 2 When the Printer receives a CR code, this switch selects either Carriage Return with Line Feed or Carriage Return only. Normally, you'll leave this switch in the OFF position (CR + LF). For some applications (such as use with the Tandy 1200 or Tandy 1000 computer which sends a LF code along with a CR), set it to the ON position (CR only). You can also select CR + LF or CR only via software. However, once you change this function via software, you must turn the Printer power OFF to enable this DIP switch to be used again. SELF-TEST: NO. 3 To run the self-test, refer to the instructions given in the first para- graph of this chapter. The self-test checks the Printer functions as indi- cated below: * Restore operation * Selection test Selects the characters `w' and `=' repeatedly 8 times, without printing anything. The Printer feeds forward 1 line at the end of the selection test. * Space test Prints one line of characters (`H') in 10 pitch. * Prints version number Ex.: V 22.B * Prints test pattern If the cover is opened during operation, the self-test stops. This switch will work only when the Printer is off-line. NOTE: If the self-test switch is ON, then every time the Printer goes OFF-LINE, the self-test will begin. Therefore, be sure that the self-test switch if OFF except when you are ready to run the test. PRINT DIRECTION: NO. 4 This switch select the print direction. When this switch is OFF, bidirectional printing is selected. When set to ON position, unidirectional printing is selected. During direct print mode, unidirectional printing is selected, regardless of the setting of this switch (in IBM mode only). See Appendix C for more details. PRINT WHEEL SELECT: NO. 5,6,7 Use these to specify the print wheel sequence. you can set the following eight print wheel sequences with these switches. PRINT WHEEL SWITCH NUMBER SELECT │ 5 │ 6 │ 7 │ ────────────────────────────────┼──────┼──────┼─────┤ US ASCII │ OFF │ OFF │ OFF │ ────────────────────────────────┼──────┼──────┼─────┤ US LEGAL │ ON │ OFF │ OFF │ ────────────────────────────────┼──────┼──────┼─────┤ WP │ OFF │ ON │ OFF │ ────────────────────────────────┼──────┼──────┼─────┤ UK ASCII │ ON │ ON │ OFF │ ────────────────────────────────┼──────┼──────┼─────┤ FRENCH │ OFF │ OFF │ ON │ ────────────────────────────────┼──────┼──────┼─────┤ GERMAN │ ON │ OFF │ ON │ ────────────────────────────────┼──────┼──────┼─────┤ SPANISH │ OFF │ ON │ ON │ ────────────────────────────────┼──────┼──────┼─────┤ SCANDIA │ ON │ ON │ ON │ ────────────────────────────────┴──────┴──────┴─────┘ SETTING THE PITCH SWITCH Be sure to set the PITCH (on the top panel) to the position that corres- ponds with the print wheel you are using. If you are using a Courier 10 print wheel, for example, set the switch to 10; if you're using a Bold PS (P/N 303029-01), set the switch to PS. Do not accidentally bump the PITCH switch during printing. Unless you change the pitch via software, the current switch setting remains in effect. (Once you change the pitch via software, you must turn the Printer power OFF to enable the top panel switch to be used again.) (dtc-07/27/93)
