WP-100 (26-3950) Typewriter Mode Faxback Doc. # 5909 When you switch to the typewriter mode, you can use the WP-100 like an electronic typewriter without affecting the text in memory. 1. Press [WP/TYPE] to switch to the typewriter mode. The Typewriter Mode screen appears and the printhead automatically moves to the left margin. 2. Type the text. As you type a character, it is immediately printed on the paper. Each line you type is displayed at the bottom of the screen. When the printhead returns, the line disappears for the next line of typing. 3. Press [WP/TYPE] again to exit the typewriter mode and return to the previous text screen. To exit the typewriter mode and return to the menu screen, press [MENU]. NOTE: If the remaining memory has been down to 4% or less, you can not switch to the typewriter mode. Text memory is full appears for a few seconds. TYPING CONTROLS Set the typing controls, such as line spacing, character pitch, and print impact. When you switch to the typewriter mode, the preset settings for these items are automatically selected. To set the pitch: Press [PITCH]. Each time you press the key, the pitch setting in the status area switches between 10 and 12. The preset setting is 10 pitch. To set the line spacing: Press [CODE] + [PITCH] (LINE SPACE). Each time you press this key combination, the line space setting in the status area changes in the following order: 1 -> 1 1/2 -> 2 -> 1. The preset setting is 1. To set the print impact: Press [CODE] + [WP/TYPE] (IMPACT). Each time you press this key combination, the impact setting in the status area changes in the following order: M -> H -> L -> M. The preset setting is M. "M", "H" and "L" stand for medium, high, and low impact. MOVING THE PRINTHEAD <- or [BACKSPACE] Moves the printhead one space to the left. Press and hold either key to move the printhead continuously to the left. -> or [SPACEBAR] Moves the printhead one space to the right. Press and hold either key to move the printhead continuously to the right until it reaches column 105. [up arrow] Moves the printing position up one line according to the line space setting. Press and hold the key to move the printing position continuously upward. [down arrow] Moves the printing position down one line according to the line space setting. Press and hold the key to move the printing position continuously downward. [CODE]+[<-](EXPRESS) Moves the printhead to the left margin. [CODE]+[END] (BEGIN) [CODE]+[->](EXPRESS) Moves the printhead to the right margin and further again to the right by 10 steps. If there is text on the line, the printhead stops at the end of it first. [END] Moves the printhead to the next space following the last character in a line. [ALT]+[<-](WORD L) Moves the printhead to the beginning of the word to the left. Press and hold this key combination to move the printhead continuously to the left from word to word. [ALT]+[->](WORD R) Moves the printhead to the beginning of the word to the right. Press and hold this key combination to move the printhead continuously to the right from word to word. [CODE]+[SPACEBAR] Moves the printhead 1/60 inch to the right. (MICROSPACE) [<─┘] Moves the printhead down to the left margin on the next line. [TAB] Moves the printhead to the next tab position to the right. MARGINS AND TABS Identifying preset margins and tabs: When you turn on the WP-100's power, the preset margins and a tab for line indent are set and displayed on the ruler. (If you have changed the margins before you switch to the typewriter mode, those new margins are set automatically.) The preset left margin is set at column 10 and the right margin is set at column 75. A tab is set at 15. The ruler scale corresponds to the scale on the paper bail. You can find the margin/tab positions on paper by using these scales. To set new margins: 1. Position the printhead at the point where you want to set a new margin by pressing <- or ->. 2. Press [MAR L] to set a new left margin. The L on the ruler moves to the new left margin column. Press [CODE] + [MAR L] (MAR R) to set a new right margin. The R on the ruler moves to the new right margin column. NOTE: You can not set left and right margins that are less than 10 spaces apart. To set a tab: A maximum of 16 tabs can be set. 1. Position the printhead at the point where you want to set a tab. 2. Press [TAB SET]. A short vertical line │ appears on the ruler at the position designated by the printhead. To clear a tab: 1. Position the printhead at the tab position or anywhere to the left. 2. Press [CODE] + [TAB SET] (TAB CLR). The │ on the ruler at that position disappears. If you press and hold this key combination, the following tabs to the right of the printhead are cleared one by one. To use a tab: 1. Press [TAB]. The printhead moves to the next tab position to the right. 2. Type the text. CORRECTION In the typewriter mode, all characters typed in the current line are stored in the correction memory. You can automatically correct individual characters, a word, or an entire line. Characters outside the one-line correction memory can be corrected manually. To correct characters: 1. Position the printhead one space to the right of the character to be corrected by pressing <- or [BACKSPACE]. 2. Press [, [BACKSPACE, [SPACEBAR], or [CODE] + [SPACEBAR] (MICROSPACE). 3. Press [CODE] + , [TAB], [CODE] + [TAB] (DEC TAB), or <─┘ instead of a decimal point. The right end of the characters aligns at the tab position. AUTO RETURN This function is automatically activated to return the printhead at the end of each line. When you type a space or hyphen after the printhead enters the hot zone, the printhead automatically returns to the left margin on the next line. You can clear auto return when you do not want to use it (for example, when you do not want to separate two words at the end of a line). 1. Press [CODE] + [0] (A-RETURN). AUTO RETURN disappears from the screen. 2. Type the text. Press <─┘ at the end of each line to return the printhead. 3. To reset auto return, press [CODE] + [0] (A-RETURN) again. UNDERLINING This function underlines all characters including spaces as you type. 1. Press [CODE] + [_] (XXX). The _ (underline) appears in the status area below the pitch setting (10 or 12.) 2. Type the text. All of the characters are automatically underlined. 3. To terminate underlining, press [CODE] + [_] (XXX) again. You can also press <-, [up arrow], [down arrow], or <─┘ to terminate the underlining function. BOLDFACE CHARACTERS The boldface function makes words stand out from the rest of the text. Use this function to emphasize titles, highlight information, and so on. 1. Press [CODE] + [=] (BOLD). The pitch setting in the status are becomes boldface characters (10 or 12). 2. Type the text. All characters are printed in boldface type. 3. To terminate boldface typing, press [CODE] + [=] (BOLD) again. You can also press <-, [up arrow], [down arrow], or <─┘ to terminate boldface typing. OVERLAY (COMPOUND CHARACTERS) This function combines characters to form symbols that are not found on the keyboard. 1. Type one character. 2. Press [CODE] + [BACKSPACE] (OVERLAY). The printhead moves back to the first character. 3. Type the other character. Both characters are combined at the same position. SUPERSCRIPT/SUBSCRIPT 1. Press [ALT] + [up arrow] (SUPER) to type superscript characters. The [up arrow] mark appears in the status area beside the pitch setting (10 [up arrow] or 12 [up arrow]). or Press [ALT] + [down arrow] (SUB) to type subscript characters. The [down arrow] mark appears in the status area beside the pitch setting (10 [down arrow] or 12 [down arrow]). 2. Type the text. The superscript text is printed 1/2 line upward and the subscript text is printed 1/2 line downward. 3. Press [ALT] + [up arrow] (SUPER) or [ALT] + [down arrow] (SUB) to cancel superscript or subscript and return the printing position to the original line. On the display, each character appears to be squeezed into the upper half of the line when you type superscript, or into the lower half of the line when you type subscript. EXPANDED TYPING 1. Press [CODE] + [X] (EXPAND). The E appears in the status area beside the pitch setting (10E or 12E). 2. Type the text. Each character is printed with a space inserted after each character. 3. To terminate the expanded typing, press [CODE] [X] (EXPAND) again. You can also press <-, [up arrow], [down arrow], or <─┘ to terminate expanded typing. SHIFT LOCK/CAPS LOCK To use shift lock: 1. Press [SHIFT LOCK]. SHIFT is highlighted in the status area. 2. Type the text. Each alphabetic character is printed in upper case. When you press a number or symbol key, the character shown on the upper left corner of the keytop is printed. 3. To clear the shift lock, press [SHIFT]. SHIFT disappears from the status area. NOTE: If you press [CODE] + [SHIFT LOCK] (CAPS), shift lock automatically switches to the caps lock. To use caps lock: 1. Press [CODE] + [SHIFT LOCK] (CAPS). CAPS is highlighted in the status area. 2. Type the text. Each alphabetic character (letter) is printed in upper case. Numbers and symbols are printed as usual. To type any lower-case alphabetic character or a symbol that is on the upper left corner of a keytop while using caps lock, press and hold [SHIFT]. Then, press the desired key. 3. To clear the caps lock, press [CODE] + [SHIFT LOCK] (CAPS) again. CAPS disappears from the status area. SECOND KEYBOARD CHARACTERS Characters located on the upper, right side of the three-character keys such as |, <, or @ can be typed. Press and hold [ALT] and then press the key marked with the desired character. You can type these characters even while using the shift lock or caps lock. VERTICAL LINE You can easily type a long vertical line when single line spacing is selected. 1. Position the printhead at the point where you want to start a vertical line. 2. Press [CODE] + [V] (VERTICAL). A short vertical line is printed. The printhead moves one line below the vertical line. Press and hold this key combination to extend the vertical downward. If the line spacing is set to 1 1/2 or 2, it becomes a broken line. (dkh-08/04/93)
