Data Compression And Error Correction Modem Operation

V.42bis supports two methods of data compression V.42bis and as a fallback
MNP 5. V.42 error correction supports LAPM (Link Access Portocol, "M"
designates the protocol for use with modems) and, as a fallback, MNP4.

Class I fax/modem supports data compression and error correction through
the communication software, while the class II fax/modem supports error
correction and data compression through the hardware.

Note:  If you attempt to send files that have been compressed while Data
       Compression is active, the transmission period may be longer.
