Speaker Wall Jack (400-0991) Installation Faxback Doc. # 14007 CHOOSING A LOCATION Choose a location for the wall plate where: Either wiring exists, or you can easily run wire through the partition(s)/ wall(s) to the location. The location does not interfere with electrical wiring or framing members behind the wall. INSTALLATION 1. Draw an outline on the wall in pencil measuring 1 3/4 x 4 inches (4.4 x 10.2 cm). 2. Drill a 3/s-inch (1 cm) hole in two corners of the outline. 3. Using a saber saw or keyhole saw, make four cuts. 4. Run wiring from the source (amplifier/receiver, etc.) through the partition(s) and bring it out through the cut opening. Installation Hint: Use color-coded speaker wire to help you identify the polarity (+ and - sides). 5. Carefully remove about 1/2 inch (.5 cm) of insulation from the wire ends. Twist the ends and solder the wire to the terminals on the back of the wall plate. Solder the - speaker wires to the outer tabs and the + speaker wires to the center tabs. Note: Be careful to match the polarity (+ and -), and attach the correct speaker wire (left or right) to the matching speaker terminal. 6. Assemble the two mounting brackets (formed and flat strips), mount them in the opening, and twist them to fit the opening. Tighten the four screws between the brackets. 7. Install the wall plate and secure it to the brackets using the supplied screws. 8. Plug a pair of speakers with 1/4-inch RCA phono connectors into the wall plate's left and right speaker jacks. Note: If your speaker wires do not end in RCA-type connectors, you can attach the wires to the supplied phono jacks. Remove about 1/2 inch of insulation from the wire ends. Unscrew the cover from the jack and solder the speaker wires to the terminals. Attach the - wire to the larger terminal and the + wire to the smaller terminal. Caution: Be sure your amplifier/receiver is turned off when you connect the wires. (ALL-03/08/95)
