PRO-127 (400-0227) Installation Faxback Doc. # 14021 SPEAKER PLACEMENT Where you place speakers depends on your room's arrangement. Before you decide on a final position, try several alternatives. For the best sound and stereo image, the distance between speakers should be the same as the distance from the main listening area to a point midway between the speakers. If the speakers must be farther apart than recommended, you can turn them slightly toward each other to achieve a more realistic effect. A little experimenting will reveal the best setup for your room and system. CONNECTING THE SPEAKERS With the speakers in their approximate locations, measure the distance from each speaker to the receiver/amplifier to see how long the speaker wire should be. Use 18-gauge speaker wire or lamp cord for distances up to 50 feet. For greater distances, use 16-gauge (or larger) wire. Your local Radio Shack store sells a wide selection of speaker wire. For maximum bass response and best overall performance, connect your speakers so their polarities match the amplifier/receiver's speaker terminals ( + with +, and - with - ). You can easily make the proper connections by using speaker wire coded to show the polarity. To help you properly connect terminals, one side of each pair of speaker wires is generally marked with a stripe or groove. Notes: The insulation in some speaker wires is clear and the separated conductors are different colors. Your local Radio Shack store has a wide selection of speaker wire. PREPARING THE WIRES 1. Separate the conductors for a length of about 4 inches on each end. 2. Strip 1/2 inch of insulation from each conductor's end and twist the ends of each stranded wire. 3. Route the speaker wires to the appropriate speaker. CONNECTING THE WIRES TO THE SPEAKERS 1. Press the tab on the right speaker's positive (+) terminal and insert one end of the marked conductor into the opening. Then release the tab. 2. Press the tab on the right speaker's negative (-) terminal and insert the end of the unmarked conductor into the opening. Then release the tab. 3. Repeat Steps 1 and 2 for the left speaker. CONNECTING THE WIRES TO THE RECEIVER/AMPLIFIER 1. Connect the other end of the right speaker's marked conductor to the receiver/amplifier's right positive (+) terminal . 2. Connect the other end of the right speaker's unmarked conductor to the receiver/amplifier's right negative (-) terminal. 3. Repeat Steps 1 and 2 and connect the left speaker to the receiver/amplifier. (ALL-03/14/95)
