STS 50 Two-Way Bookshelf (400-0230) Installation Faxback Doc. # 14034 Speaker SPEAKER PLACEMENT For the best stereo image, place a pair of speakers so the distance between them is about the same as the distance between the listening area and the point halfway between the speakers. If you must place the speakers farther apart, turn them slightly inward. If you must place them closer to each other, turn them slightly outward. Experiment with your speakers' placement to discover the best location for them. CONNECTIONS Your local Radio Shack store has a wide selection of speaker wire. We recommend you use color-coded or marked wires to help you correctly connect the speaker to your sound system. Color-coded wires have a stripe running down one of the conductors and marked wires have one or more ridges along one of the conductors. With the speakers in their approximate locations, measure the distance from each speaker to the amplifier. Use 1 8-gauge speaker wire (not supplied) for distances up to 50 feet. For greater distances, use 16-gauge wire (not supplied). Note: For maximum bass response and the best overall performance, connect your speakers so they are in phase with each other (+ with +, and - with -). 1. Separate the wire's two conductors at both ends for a length of about 4 inches. 2. Strip the insulator from the ends of each conductor to expose 1/4 inch of metal wire. 3. Press the tab on the left speaker's negative (-) terminal and insert one of the wire ends into the opening. Release the tab. 4. Press the tab on the left speaker's positive (+) terminal and insert the other wire end into the opening. Then release the tab.. 5. Using the speaker wire's code as a guide, connect the left speaker's negative (-) terminal to the receiver/amplifier's left negative (-) terminal. Then connect the left speaker's positive (+) terminal to the receiver/amplifier's left positive (+) terminal. 6. Repeat Steps 3-5 for the right speaker. (ALL-03/09/95)
