MICRO-30 (140-1062) Preparation Faxback Doc. # 15049 POWER SOURCES You can power your Micro-30 from any of the following: Internal battery power AC power (with an AC adapter) A vehicle's battery (with a DC adapter) During a power loss, the Micro-30's memory backup circuit maintains the date and time and tape counter setting stored in memory for about 2 hours. If the Micro-30 is disconnected from power or if the batteries lose power, promptly restore power or replace the batteries to avoid memory loss. USING BATTERIES You can use two AA batteries, such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-552, to power your Micro-30. Or, you can use rechargeable nickel-cadmium batteries (Cat. No. 23-125) with a battery charger (Cat. No. 23-133). CAUTIONS: Use only fresh batteries of the required size and type. Never leave dead or weak batteries in the Micro-30. Do not mix non-rechargeable batteries with rechargeable batteries, or rechargeable batteries of different capacities. Dispose of old batteries promptly; do not bury or burn them. Follow these steps to install the batteries. 1. Press down on the battery compartment cover and slide it off in the direction of the arrow. 2. Insert the batteries into the compartment as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and -) marked inside the compartment. 3. Replace the battery compartment cover. NOTE: If you do not plan to use the Micro-30 for several days, remove the batteries. IMPORTANT: Your recorder is capable of using rechargeable nickel-cadimum batteries. At the end of the batteries' useful life, they must be recycled or disposed of properly. Contact your local, county, or state hazardous waste management authorities for information on recycling or disposal programs in your area. Some options that might be available are: municipal curbside collection, drop-off boxes at retailers, recycling collection centers, and mail-back programs. Using AC Power To power the Micro-30 from an AC outlet, you need an AC adapter (not supplied), such as Cat. No. 273-1662. CAUTIONS: You must use an AC adapter that supplies 3 volts DC power and delivers at least 200 milliamps. Its center tip must be set to negative, and its plug must properly fit the Micro-30's DC3V jack. The recommended adapter meets these specifications. Using an adapter that does not meet these specifications could damage the Micro-30 or the adapter. Always connect the AC adapter to the Micro-30 before you plug it into the AC outlet, and unplug the adapter from the AC outlet before you unplug it from the Micro-30. Follow these steps to power the Micro-30 from standard AC power. 1. Set the AC adapter's voltage switch to 3V. 2. Attach the green-rimmed barrel plug to the AC adapter's cord with the tip set to negative (-). CAUTION: Be sure to set the tip polarity to negative (-). If the polarity is reversed, the recorder, tape, or AC adapter might be damaged. 3. Insert the AC adapter's barrel plug into the recorder's DC3V jack. This disconnects the internal batteries. 4. Plug the other end of the AC adapter into a standard AC outlet. Using Vehicle Battery Power To power the Micro-30 from your vehicle's battery, you need a DC adapter, such as Cat. No. 270-1560. CAUTIONS: Your vehicle must have a 12-volt, negative-ground electrical system. You must use a DC adapter that supplies 3 volts DC power and delivers at least 200 milliamps. Its center tip must be set to negative, and its plug must properly fit the Micro-30's DC3V jack. The recommended adapter meets these specifications. Using an adapter that does not meet these specifications could damage the Micro-30 or the adapter. Always plug the adapter into the Micro-30 before you plug it into the cigarette-lighter socket, and unplug the adapter from the cigarette-lighter socket before you unplug it from Micro-30. Follow these steps to power the Micro-30 from your vehicle's battery. 1. Set the DC adapter's voltage switch to 3V. 2. Plug the blue-rimmed barrel plug into the DC adapter's cord with the tip set to negative (-). CAUTION: Be sure to set the tip polarity to negative (-). If the polarity is reversed, the recorder, tape, or DC adapter might be damaged. 3. Insert the DC adapter's barrel plug into the Micro-30's DC3V jack. This disconnects the internal batteries. 4. Plug the other end of the DC adapter into the vehicle's cigarette- lighter socket. RESETTING THE RECORDER If the recorder's display locks up or does not work properly after you connect a power source, you might have to reset it. NOTE: This procedure clears the date/time display and the tape counter. Do this only when you are sure your recorder is not working properly. To reset the recorder, gently press RESET on the back of the recorder with a pointed object, such as a ball point pen. The date and time flash until you reset them or press another button. CAUTION: Do not press and hold down or repeatedly press RESET. Doing so might damage the recorder. SETTING THE DATE AND TIME Use COUNTER RESET/SET, UP ARROW, and DOWN ARROW on the front of the recorder to set the current date and time. CAUTION: Use only the edge of your fingernail to press COUNTER RESET/SET, UP ARROW, and DOWN ARROW. Do not use a pointed object or apply excessive pressure when pressing these buttons. NOTES: You must correctly set the date and time so you can display the correct date and time of recordings. When setting the date and time, you must press the next key within 3 minutes after you press COUNTER RESET/SET. If you press any button other than STOP/EJECT, COUNTER RESET/SET, UP ARROW, or DOWN ARROW while setting the date and time, the recorder saves any settings you already entered, and you must start over from Step 1 to set the date and time. Follow these steps to set the date and time. 1. If the recorder is playing or recording, press STOP/EJECT. 2. Press and hold down COUNTER RESET/SET until AM or PM and the hour digits flash on the display. NOTE: If you release COUNTER RESET/SET before the hour flash, the tape counter resets to 0000. 3. Use UP ARROW or DOWN ARROW to set the current hour. Press and hold down UP ARROW or DOWN ARROW to continuously change the hour. NOTE: Your recorder uses a 12-hour format. AM appears for AM hour, and PM appears for a PM hour. 4. Press and hold down COUNTER RESET/SET until the minute digits flash. 5. Use UP ARROW or DOWN ARROW to set the current minute. Press and hold down UP ARROW or DOWN ARROW to continuously change the minute. 6. Press and hold down COUNTER RESET/SET until the year digits flash next to Y. 7. Use UP ARROW or DOWN ARROW to set the current year. Press and hold down UP ARROW or DOWN ARROW to continuously change the year. NOTES: You can set the current year anywhere from '94 (1994) through '19 (2019).
