Mini Amplified Speaker (320-2040) Power Sources Faxback Doc. # 15491 INSTALLING BATTERIES You can power your speaker from four C batteries. For best performance, we recommend alkaline batteries, such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-551. Follow these steps to install the batteries: 1. Press the battery compartment tab in the direction of the arrow, and lift up the battery compartment cover. 2. Insert the batteries into the battery compartment as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and -) and diagram marked inside the compartment. 3. Replace the battery compartment cover. NOTES: If you are operating the speaker from battery power and the sound becomes weak or distorted, replace the batteries. Weak batteries can leak. To avoid damage to the speaker, remove the batteries if you plan not to use the speaker for a week or more, or if you plan to use AC or DC power. USING AC POWER You can power the speaker from a standard AC outlet. Using AC power requires an adapter (not supplied) such as Cat. No. 273-1455A. CAUTIONS: You must use a AC adapter that supplies 9 volts and delivers at least 300 milliamps. Its center tip must be set to negative, and its plug must correctly fit the speaker's DC 9V jack. Using an adapter that does not meet these specifications could seriously damage the speaker or the adapter. To prevent electrical shock and damage to your speaker, always connect the AC adapter as instructed and always unplug the AC adapter from the outlet before you unplug it from the speaker. Follow these steps to use AC power: 1. Insert the adapter's barrel plug into the speaker's DC 9V jack. 2. Plug the adapter's other end into a standard AC outlet. CAUTIONS: USING VEHICLE BATTERY POWER You can power your speaker from your vehicle's battery power. This requires an optional DC adapter, such as Radio Shack's Cat. No. 14-844D. Your vehicle must have a 12-volt DC, negative-ground electrical system. You must use an DC adapter that supplies 9 volts and delivers at least 300 milliamps. Its center tip must be set to negative, and its plug must correctly fit the speaker's DC 9V jack. Using an adapter that does not meet these specifications could seriously damage the speaker or the adapter. To prevent electrical shock and damage to your speaker, always connect the DC adapter as instructed, and always unplug the DC adapter from the cigarette-lighter socket before you unplug it from the speaker. Follow these steps to use your vehicle's battery power. 1. Set the adapter's voltage switch to 9V and insert the small plug into the speaker's DC 9V jack. 2. Insert the large plug into the cigarette-lighter socket. (br/all-06/02/95)
