Optimus 714 (130-1261A) Preparation Faxback Doc. # 15534 NOTE: Complete all connections before turning on the music system or connecting it to a standard AC outlet. INSTALLING/REPLACING THE REMOTE CONTROL'S BATTERIES The remote control is powered by three AAA batteries. For the longest operation, we recommend alkaline batteries (such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-555). Follow these steps to install (or replace) the batteries. 1. Slide off the battery compartment cover in the direction of the arrow. 2. Remove and discard the old batteries, if necessary. CAUTIONS: Never leave dead, old, or weak batteries in the system. They can leak chemicals and corrode or damage electronic circuits. Always dispose of old batteries promptly and properly. Never expose batteries to extreme heat or fire. They might explode and cause personal injury or damage equipment. 3. Place three AAA batteries in the compartment as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and -) marked in the compartment. CAUTIONS: Use only fresh batteries of the required size and type. Never mix fresh with old batteries. If you do not plan to use the system for a month or more, remove and store the batteries. They might leak chemicals and corrode or damage the electronic circuits. 4. Replace the battery compartment cover. CONNECTING AM EXTERNAL ANTENNA If you want to listen to FM, attach an optional FM or VHF TV external antenna (not supplied) to the 300-OHM FM ANTENNA wire terminals on the back of the system. If you have an outside VHF TV antenna, you can use a simple 300-ohm signal splitter to connect your music system and TV set to the same antenna. Your local Radio Shack store has a wide selection of antennas and splitters. NOTE: If you connect a 300-ohm indoor antenna to the back of the tuner/CD, fully extend it for the best FM reception. CONNECTING THE TUNER/CD TO THE AMPLIFIER/CASSETTE DECK Use the supplied two-wire audio cord and the 15-wire connector ribbon to connect the tuner/CD to the amplifier/cassette deck. 1. Connect the red phone plug at one end of the 2-wire audio cord to the TUNER/CD OUT R (right) jack on the back of the tuner/CD. A. 15-WIRE CONNECTOR RIBBON B. RED PHONO PLUG C. WHITE PHONE PLUG 2. Connect the white phono plug to the TUNER/CD OUT L (left) jack on the back of the tuner/CD. 3. Connect the red phono plug at the other end of the cord to the TUNER/ CD IN R (right) jack on the back of the amplifier/cassette deck. 4. Connect the white phono plug to the TUNER/CD IN L (left) jack on the back of the amplifier/cassette deck. 5. Connect one end of the 15-wire ribbon to the 15-pin jack on the back of the tuner/CD. Be sure the plug's guide ridges match the jack's slots on the bottom of the receptacle. CAUTION: Forcing the connector cord's plugs into their jacks might damage the pins. 6. Connect the other end of the 15-wire ribbon to the 15-pin jack on the back of the amplifier/cassette deck. CONNECTING THE SPEAKERS Each speaker has an attached speaker wire which connects to the back of the back of the amplifier/cassette deck. 1. Connect the right speaker wire's phono plug to the 4 OHM EXT. SPEAKERS R terminal. 2. Connect the left speaker wire's phono plug to the 4 OHM EXT. SPEAKERS L terminal. (LB/all-06/06/95)
