Optimus 714 (130-1261A) Care and Maintenance Faxback Doc. # 15536 CARING FOR YOUR MUSIC SYSTEM The Optimus 714 Music System is an example of superior design and craftsmanship. The following suggestions will help you care for the system so you can enjoy it for years. Keep the system dry. If it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately. Liquids might contain minerals that can corrode the electronic circuits. Use and store the system only in normal temperature environments. Temperature extremes can shorten the life of electronic devices, damage batteries, and distort or melt plastic parts. Handle the system gently and carefully. Dropping it can damage the circuit boards and can cause the system to work improperly. Keep the system away from dust and dirt, which can cause premature wear of parts. Wipe the system with a damp cloth occasionally to keep it looking new. Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or strong detergents to clean the system. Modifying or tampering with the system's internal components can cause a malfunction and might invalidate its warranty. If the system is not performing as it should take it to your local Radio Shack store for assistance. CARING FOR CDS Even though a compact disc is very durable, handle it with care. Always hold a CD by its edge. In extreme cases, fingerprints and scratches on the CD's surface can prevent the laser from correctly reading the digital information. Always keep the CD in its protective case or sleeve when it is not in use. Keep the CD dry. A water drop can act as a lens and effect the laser beam's focus. CLEANING THE CASSETTE MECHANISM After extended use, a cassette tape's playback quality can deteriorate. Friction during normal use can cause tape material to build up on the tape head. Dust entering the cassette tape can also build up. To ensure high-quality reproduction, clean the tape head regularly (after each 24 hours of playing time). Insert a special head cleaning cassette into the cassette deck and let it run for a few minutes to remove any foreign matter. You can also use a soft cotton swab moistened with denatured alcohol or head-cleaning fluid to clean the head. The local Radio Shack store sells head cleaning cassettes and head cleaning kits. CAUTION: Do not insert any metallic object into the tape compartment areas of either deck. You might damage the heads or other internal mechanisms. PROTECTING YOUR RECORDED CASSETTES When you wish to keep a recorded cassette permanently, break off the record protection tab on the left rear of the cassette (desired side up). This will prevent the RECORD button from being accidentally pressed. If you wish to record on a cassette which has been protected, simply cover the window with cellophane tape. (LB/all-06/06/95)
