PRO-100 (330-1145) Operation Faxback Doc. # 16038 CHARGING THE BATTERY PACK The headphones are powered by a nickel cadmium battery pack. If the headphone's range decreases or you hear no sound from the audio source, follow these steps to charge the battery pack. 1. Turn off the headphones. 2. Plug the supplied charging cable into the headphone's charger jack on the left earpiece. 3. Plug the other end of the charging cable into the base's CHARGER jack. It takes 12 to 14 hours to completely recharge the battery pack. NOTE: Before you use the headphones the first time, you must charge them for at least 24 hours. USING YOUR PRO-100 WIRELESS HEADPHONES 1. Turn on the audio source. 2. Adjust the LEVEL control on the back of the transmitter. If you connected the transmitter to jacks that are not controlled by the audio source's volume control, rotate LEVEL all the way to the right. Then slowly adjust LEVEL to the left until the AUDIO LEVEL indicator just starts to flicker. If you connected the transmitter to a headphone jack or to jacks that are controlled by the audio source's volume control, set the system's volume control to about 1/3 of the maximum and rotate LEVEL all the way to the left. Then slowly adjust LEVEL until the AUDIO LEVEL indicator just starts to flicker. NOTE: Some audio sources might not make the AUDIO LEVEL indicator flicker. For these sources, rotate LEVEL all the way to the left. 3. Rotate VOL on the headset to the minimum position. 4. Set the headphones' ON/OFF switch to ON and rotate TUN until the stereo indicator on the right earcup lights. 5. Put on the headphones. If necessary, slide the earcups up or down to adjust the headband to fit your head. 6. Slowly rotate VOL on the headset to a comfortable listening level. To preserve battery life, be sure to turn off the headphones when you are not using them. NOTES: The stereo indicator on the right earcup lights when the headphones are receiving a good signal. As you move out of the transmitter's range, the stereo indicator turns off. You still can hear the audio source in mono until you move completely out of range. If reception is poor, even when the batteries are fully charged and you are near the transmitter, try moving the transmitter to a higher location or moving it away from the audio source. Listening Safely To protect your hearing, follow these guidelines when you use your headphones. Set the volume to the lowest setting before you begin listening. After you begin listening, adjust the volume to a comfortable level. Do not listen at extremely high volume levels. Extended high-volume listening can lead to permanent hearing loss. Once you set the volume, do not increase it. Over time, your ears adapt to the volume level, so a volume level that does not cause discomfort might still damage your hearing. ADJUSTING THE FREQUENCY If you receive interference from other devices, you might be able to reduce the interference by adjusting the PRO-100's operating frequency. Simply rotate FREQ ADJUST on the transmitter then rotate TUN on the right earcup until the headphone's stereo indicator (on the right earcup) lights steadily. REPLACING THE BATTERY PACK When operation time on a full charge becomes too short, you must replace the battery pack. You can order a replacement battery pack through your local Radio Shack store. Follow these steps to replace the battery pack. 1. Turn off the headphones. 2. Carefully pull back the foam earpad from the earcup that has the ON/OFF switch to expose each screw. Do not remove the foam earpad. 3. Use a small Phillips screwdriver to remove the three screws. 4. Carefully remove the plastic case with the speaker attached. CAUTION: Take care not to damage the wires going to the earcup's speaker. 5. Unplug the old battery's connector from the headphone and remove the battery. 6. Plug the new battery's connector into the headphone. Then secure the battery in the headphone using double-sided tape. 7. Secure the case using the screws you removed in Step 3. Cautions for Replacing the Battery Use a replacement battery pack of the required type (3.6V 280 mAH rechargeable battery, Cat. No. 23-192, available through your local Radio Shack store). Do not dispose of the battery pack in a fire because it can explode. Do not open or mutilate the battery pack. Be careful not to short the battery pack by touching the connector with conducting materials, such as rings, bracelets, and keys. The battery pack or conductor might overheat and burn. At the end of the battery pack's useful life, it must be recycled or disposed of properly. Contact your local, county, or state hazardous waste management authorities for information on recycling or disposal programs in your area. Some options that might be available are: municipal curbside collection, drop-off boxes at retailers, recycling collection centers, and mail-back programs. (llg/all-07/20/95)
