Minimus-7 Speaker (400-2034) Installation Faxback Doc. # 16380 System Location and positioning are vital for best performance of your Minimus-7 Silver. The ideal location in on a table or shelf positioned near a room corner. For many modern room settings a decorator shelf attached to a wood wall (or other acoustically "hard" surface) will greatly reinforce the sound quality. Avoid positioning your Minimus-7 Silver back from the front edge of a shelf - keep it out flush with the front edge of the shelf. for best sound, avoid floor locations (Floor coverings can "absorb" sound.) We urge you to experiment with Speaker placement and then play a favorite, wide frequency response recording through the speakers - you'll notice a distinct difference with changes in location. CONNECTIONS Two terminals are provided on the rear of the speaker system for connection to your amplifier. Use speaker wire or ordinary 18-gauge SP-T lamp cord ("zip cord") for distances between amplifier and speaker of 50 feet (15m) or less. Over 50 feet (15m), use heavier 16-gauge wire. In multi-speaker monophonic installation and stereo systems, where phasing is important, use a color coded wire, one with a marker yarn or some other means of distinguishing one wire of the pair from the other. PHASING Your Minimus-7 Silver has one terminal marked "+" and another marked "-" on the back. Be sure to connect your Speakers to the appropriate Amplifier/Receiver terminals. This is essential for proper phasing, which gives the best sound. If you're not sure about phasing, try this: (1) connect your system for stereo; (2) place Speakers about one foot (30cm) apart and facing each other; (3) tune to a spot on the FM dial where there is no station. Reversing the wires to one of the speakers will produce a "fuller", broader sound which is immediately noticeable. The correct connection is the one producing the "fuller" sound. Rubber feet are provided to avoid scratching furniture. Remove paper backing and press the adhesive-backed feet on the bottom of the Speaker. There are type types of Rubber Feet: Use the thicker ones for front position (A) and thinner ones for rear position (B). You can mount the Speaker directly against a wall with a screw. The Minimus-7 Silver can be mounted in a vehicle, on a wall, under a shelf, to a ceiling -- using a special bracket (40-2031). Stereo speaker placement can be a little tricky. The Speakers should be spaced apart by about 2/3 of the distance between the Speakers and your listening area. You can direct them straight forward, or aim them inward slightly, depending on room acoustics and desired stereo effect. (ALL-08/07/95)
