System 1230 Stereo (130-1250) Care and Maintenance Faxback Doc. # 16398 Rack System Your Optimus System 1230 is an example of superior design and craftsmanship. The following suggestions will help you care for the system so you can enjoy it for years. Keep the system dry. If it does get wet, wipe it dry immediately. Liquids can contain minerals that can corrode the electronic circuits. Use only fresh batteries of the recommended size and type for the remote control. Always remove old or weak batteries. They can leak chemicals that destroy electronic circuits. Handle the system gently and carefully. Dropping it can damage circuit boards and cases and can cause it to work improperly. Use and store the system only in normal temperature environments. Temperature extremes can shorten the life of electronic devices, damage batteries, and distort or melt plastic parts. Keep the system away from dust and dirt, which can cause premature wear of parts. Wipe the system with a damp cloth occasionally to keep it looking new. Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or strong detergents to clean the system. Modifying or tampering with the system's internal components can cause a malfunction and might invalidate the system's warranty and void your FCC authorization to operate it. If your system is not performing as it should, take it to your local Radio Shack store. Our personnel can assist you and arrange for service if needed. STYLUS REPLACEMENT A replacement stylus is available from your local Radio Shack store. To replace the stylus, do the following: 1. Clamp down the tone arm. 2. Gently push down the front of the cartridge. 3. Replace the old stylus assembly with the new one. COMPACT DISC CARE Even though a compact disc is more durable than an LP record, you should handle it with care. Although a CD lasts indefinitely with normal use, we recommend the following precautions. Keep the CD in its protective case or sleeve when you are playing it. Handle a CD by its edges to avoid fingerprints, which can prevent the changer's laser beam from accurately reading the CD. Your local Radio Shack store sells an appropriate CD Cleaner Kit. Keep the CD dry. A water drop can act as a lens and affects the laser beam's focus. The CD changer has a wide dynamic range. As a result, if you turn the amplifier's volume too high during soft (low volume) sections of a program, you might damage your speakers when a sudden loud passage is produced. If you move the changer, be sure that the CD compartment is empty. This prevents possible damage to the CD. Do not place foreign objects in the CD compartment and attempt to close the compartment. Doing so can damage the mechanism. Laser Safety: The CD changer employs a laser. Only a qualified service person should remove the cover or attempt to service this device, due to possible eye injury. This Compact Disc Player is made and tested to meet exacting safety standards. It meets UL and FCC requirements and complies with safety performance standards of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. (ALL-08/09/95)
