System 1230 Stereo (130-1250) Hints and Tips Faxback Doc. # 16399 Rack System STORING CASSETTES Do not store cassette tapes in places: With high temperatures or high humidity. That are exposed to strong magnetic fields (caused by transformers, motors and so on). Where large amounts of dust or dirt exist. ERASING TAPES Each time you record onto a tape, you record over the previous recording. You can record over a tape as many times as you want. CAUTION: All cassettes have erase-protection tabs. When these tabs are in place, you can record on the tape. If you remove the tabs, do not press RECORD. To erase a tape without making a new recording, load the cassette and press TAPE. Disconnect any microphones. then, press RECORD. The PLAY button automatically engages. To rapidly erase a tape, place a blank tape in TAPE 1 and the tape you want to erase in TAPE 2. Then, proceed as you would for high-speed dubbing. To rapidly erase several tapes, use a bulk tape eraser, available at your local Radio Shack store. A bulk tape eraser erases both sides of an entire tape in a few seconds. To erase only part of a tape, use the first method described. PROTECTING FROM ERASURE To protect Side A (or 1) from being erased or recorded over, hold the cassette with the tabs facing you and Side A up. then, carefully break off the right tab with a flat-blade screwdriver. The left tab is for Side B (or 2). If you later decide you want to record on the tape, place a piece of plastic tape over the tab holes. Now you can record on the tape again. NOTES: Removing the erase-protection tabs does not prevent a bulk eraser from erasing the tape. CrO2 tapes have additional index holes located next to the erase- protection holes. If you cover the erase-protection holes, be careful not to cover the index holes. CLEANING TAPE HANDLING MECHANISMS After repeated use of the cassette deck, dust, lint, and tape oxides accumulates on its tape-handling mechanisms. for best performance and sound quality, clean all the tape-handling mechanisms after about every 20 hours of use. Your local Radio Shack store sells the necessary cleaning supplies. DEMAGNETIZING THE TAPE HEAD To prevent unwanted noise, remove residual magnetism using a tape-head demagnetizer, available at your local Radio Shack store. CAUTION: Never touch the record/playback head with any kind of metal. (ALL-08/09/95)
