CD-100 Compact Disc Automatic Changer (420-5060) Operation Faxback Doc. # 17006 WARNING: To protect your hearing, set the volume on your receiver or amplifier to its lowest level before you load and play a CD. CAUTION: Do not set the volume on your receiver or amplifier too high while playing soft or quiet portions of a music program. Due to the CD changer's wide dynamic range, the speakers might be damaged if the music program includes a sudden loud passage. LOADING CDs NOTES: If adjacent CDs stick to each other, gently wipe both sides of each disc with the supplied antistatic sheet. While playing a CD, you cannot open the rack that contains that CD. When you open the front panel while a CD is playing, PLAY INDICATOR nest to Rack 1 flashes and the changer displays RACK and tie rack number. Do not force open the playing rack. The rack also will not open for 10 seconds after the CD changer finishes playing or searching. IMPORTANT: Make sure you have removed the shipping screws from the bottom of the CD changer before you load and play CDs (see "Removing the Shipping Screws" Faxback Doc. # 17005). There are four rolling racks: each rack can hold 25 CDs. The disc numbers are assigned from left to right - the leftmost rack holds discs 1 to 25, the second holds discs 26 to 50, and so forth. Follow these steps to load up to 100 CDs. 1. Open the front panel by pulling the top edge. 2. Press EJECT on the desired rack. 3. Hold the CD vertically and insert it in the CD slot, label side to the right. 4. When you finish loading the desired Cds in a rack, push the rack back until it is fully closed. 5. Repeat Steps 3 and 4 to load CDs in other racks. 6. Close the front panel. CAUTIONS: Do not load anything other than 5-inch CDs into the CD change. Do not load single 3-inch CDs with any type of adapter device. The CD changer might be damaged. Be careful not to insert your fingers beyond the rack. USING THE LINER NOTE FILE AND INDEX LABELS You can store the liner notes provided with your CDs in the supplied liner notebook so you can easily determine which CD is loaded in each position. Insert the liner note into the file in the same order as you load the CD into the rack. Use the supplied index labels to help identify which CD is in which slot. You can use them for the liner note file, CD case or jacket, and liner notes. HANDLING CDs Always handle CDs by their edges. Fingerprints and scratches on a CD's surface can prevent the laser beam from correctly reading the digital information. For more information, see "CD Care Tips" on Page 17. PLAYING CDs NOTES: When you select a custom group: When you press DISC +/-, the changer scans only through the discs within the selected group. If you select a disc not in the group using the remote control's number buttons, CUSTOM blinks and ***-no appears for about 3 seconds. If a disc in the group is not loaded, ***-no appears on the display for about 3 seconds, the disc number is erased from memory, and play continues from the next disc. Follow these steps to play CDs. 1. Turn on your receiver/amplifier and select the audio input (CD,AUX, or TAPE) to wish you connected your CD changer. Be sure to close the front panel - play back will not begin if the front panel is open. 2. Press POWER to turn on the CD changer. If this is not the first time you operate the CD-100, the CD changer returns to the first track of the last CD you played. 3. While the CD changer is stopped, press MODE until the play mode you want appears on the display. ALL - Plays all the loaded CDs. SINGLE - Plays only the selected CD. CUSTOM I, II, III - Plays only the CDs that belong to the selected group (see "Assigning CDs to Groups" on Page 12). You can switch between ALL and SINGLE during play, but you cannot select custom play unless the CD changer is stopped. The current play mode stays selected even when you turn off the power, and returns to that mode when you turn on the power again. 4. Press > to begin play from Track 1 on Disc 1 (or the last CD you played) and play all tracks and CDs in order. The CD changer stops after it plays the highest-numbered CD you loaded. The changer displays the disc and track number that is playing. If a tray does not contain a CD, the CD changer displays no next to the disc number and skips to the next tray. If the CD changer does not find a CD after searching the highest-numbered tray in the highest- numbered rack, it stops. Once the CD changer memorizes which trays contain CDs, it skips empty trays. To reset this memory, open a disc rack or unplug the AC power cord. 5. To temporarily stop play, press LL II appears on the display. Press II again or press > to resume play. 6. Press BLACK SQUARE to stop play before the last CD ends. The CD changer returns to the first track on the current CD. Press BLACK SQUARE again to return to the beginning of the first track on the first CD. NOTE: A sudden shock or jolt while a CD is playing might suddenly change the CD's rotation speed or make the CD changer skip the current track. This might momentarily mute or distort the sound. This is not a malfunction. AUTOMATICALLY ADJUSTING THE OUTPUT VOLUME You can set the CD changer to automatically adjust the volume for each CD track for the best playback and recording. Press ADLC (automatic digital level controller) to turn on this feature. ADLC appears on the display. NOTE: If any track sounds unnatural, press ADLC to cancel this feature.
