SCP-70 Stereo Mate AM/FM Stereo Cassette Player (140-1212) Care and Maintenance Faxback Doc. # 17940 The Radio Shack SCP-70 Stereo Mate AM/FM Stereo Cassette Player is an example of superior design and craftsmanship. The following suggestions will help you care for the SCP-70 so you can enjoy it for years. Keep the SCP-70 dry. If it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately. Liquids can contain minerals that can corrode electronic circuits. Use and store the SCP-70 only in normal temperature environments. Temperature extremes can shorten the life of electronic devices, damage batteries, and distort or melt plastic parts. Handle the SCP-70 gently and carefully. Dropping it can damage the circuit boards and case and cause the SCP-70 to work improperly. Keep the SCP-70 away from dust and dirt, which can cause premature wear of parts. Occasionally wipe the SCP-70 with a damp cloth to keep it looking new. Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or strong detergents to clean the SCP-70. Modifying or tampering with the SCP-70's internal components can cause a malfunction and might invalidate its warranty and void your FCC authorization to operate it. If your SCP-70 is not performing as it should, take it to your local Radio Shack store for assistance. CLEANING THE TAPE-HANDLING PARTS Dirt, dust or particles of the tape's coating can accumulate on the tape heads and other parts that the tape touches. This can greatly reduce the performance of the cassette player. Use the following cleaning procedures after about 20 hours of tape player operation. 1. Remove the batteries and disconnect any other power source. 2. Open the cassette compartment door and remove the cassette (if necessary). 3. Press PLAY to expose the tape-handling parts. 4. Use a cotton swab dipped in denatured alcohol or tape head cleaning solution to clean the playback head, pinch roller, and capstan. 5. When you finish cleaning, press STOP, then close the door. Your local Radio Shack store sells a complete line of cassette cleaning supplies. THE FCC WANTS YOU TO KNOW The SCP-70 AM/FM Stereo Cassette Player might cause TV or radio interference even when it is operating properly. To determine whether the SCP-70 is causing the interference, turn off the SCP-70. If the interference goes away, the SCP-70 is causing the interference. Try to eliminate the interference by: Moving the SCP-70 away from the TV or radio. Connecting the SCP-70 to an outlet that is on a different electrical circuit than the TV or radio. Contacting your local Radio Shack store for help. If you cannot eliminate the interference, the FCC requires that you stop using the SCP-70. (/all-11/20/95)
