PLAYING A CASSETTE TAPE 1. Set L/R VOLUME controls to their lowest setting (toward PLAY). 2. Set TAPE (radio off)/RADIO to TAPE (radio off). 3. Take up any slack in the cassette tape by turning the hub with a pencil. This helps prevent the tape from tangling in the tape mechanism. Avoid touching the tape with your fingers. 4. Pull open the cassette compartment door. 5. Insert a cassette into the guides on the compartment door with the cassette's open edge facing up, the side you want to play facing out, and the full reel to the right. Then close the door. 6. Press PLAY. 7. Adjust the L/R VOLUME controls to a comfortable listening level. L VOLUME controls the sound from the left speaker, and R VOLUME controls the sound from the right speaker. NOTES: Press STOP then FAST-F to fast-forward the tape. The button locks, PLAY releases, and the tape fast-forwards until you press STOP. To rewind the cassette tape, turn the tape over and fast- forward to the desired position. 8. The SCP-70 automatically stops when it reaches the end. To stop playback sooner, press STOP. TAPE TIPS TAPE QUALITY For the best performance, use only regular length (60- or 90-minute) cassette tapes. We do not recommend long-playing cassette tapes, such as C-120s, because they are extremely thin and can easily tangle in the playback mechanism. RESTORING TAPE TENSION AND SOUND QUALITY After you play a cassette tape several times, the tape might become tightly wound on the reels. This can cause playback sound quality to deteriorate. To restore the sound quality, fast-forward the tape from the beginning to the end of one side, then turn the tape over and fast-forward to the end again. Then loosen the tape reels by gently tapping each side of the cassette's outer shell on a flat surface. CAUTION: Be careful not to damage the cassette when tapping it. Do not touch the exposed tape or allow any sharp objects near the cassette. (/all-11/20/95)
