System 735 Integrated Stereo Component System (130-1283) Dubbing A Tape Faxback Doc. # 17965 DUBBING (COPYING) A TAPE You can use the cassette deck's synchro-start mechanism to easily duplicate a tape by playing it in deck 1 and making a recording of it in deck 2. You can also select between two dubbing speeds, normal or high speed, and you can monitor the tape as you dub it. 1. Press TAPE. The TAPE indicator lights. 2. Load the cassette you want to copy into deck 1 with the cassette's full reel to the left and the side you want to play facing you. 3. Load a blank cassette, or one you want to record over, into deck 2. Position the cassette so the side you want to record onto faces you with its full reel to the left. 4. Set HIGH SPEED DUBBING/BEAT CANCEL as follows: HIGH - to record in half the normal recording time. NORMAL - to record at normal speed for quality sound. Caution: Do not change the dubbing speed during dubbing. Doing so might damage the tape or cause a distorted recording. 5. Press PAUSE on deck 2. 6. Press RECORD on deck 2 to set the recording pause mode. PLAY on deck 2 automatically locks down. 7. Press PLAY on deck 1. Deck 2's PAUSE releases and dubbing (copying) begins. 8. To stop dubbing before either tape ends, press STOP/EJECT on both decks. NOTES: If the cassette tape in deck 2 stops before the tape in deck 1, the cassette tape in deck 1 continues to play at normal speed. If the cassette tape in deck 1 stops before the tape in deck 2 stops, deck 2 records silence. Press STOP/EJECT on deck 2 when deck 1 stops. If the original tape was recorded using Dolby NR, the copy also has Dolby NR, regardless of the position of the DOLBY NR switch. If the tape you copy does not have Dolby NR, you cannot add it to the tape you record. TAPE TIPS STORING CASSETTES Do not store cassette tapes in places: With high temperature or high humidity Where large amounts of dust or dirt exist Erasing Tapes Each time you record onto a prerecorded tape, you record over the previous recording. You can record over a tape as many times as you want. If you want to erase a tape without making a new recording, press RECORD with no audio source playing. To completely erase the tape, let it run to the end. To rapidly erase tapes, use a bulk tape eraser, available at your local Radio Shack store. A bulk tape eraser erases both sides of an entire tape in a few seconds. Erase Protection Cassettes have two erase-protection tabs-one for each cassette side. To protect a recording from being accidentally recorded over or erased, use a screwdriver to break off one or both of the cassette's erase-protection tabs. When you try to record on a cassette side that had its erase-protection tab removed, you cannot press down RECORD. If you later decide to record on an erase-protected cassette, place a piece of strong plastic tape over that side's erase-protection hole. Be sure you cover only the hole originally covered by the erase-protection tab. CAUTION: Removing the erase-protection tabs does not prevent a bulk tape eraser from erasing a cassette. (CS 11/9/95)
