System 735 Integrated Stereo Component System (130-1283) Preparation Faxback Doc. # 17969 WARNING: Do not connect the system to AC power until you complete all other connections. UNPACKING THE SYSTEM The shipping screw and brass sleeve on the bottom of the system help protect the system from damage during shipment or while moving it. CAUTION: If you do not remove the shipping screw, M-ERROR scrolls across the CD changer's display and the system might not work properly. Follow these steps to unpack the system. 1. Remove all packing material from around the system. 2. Remove the shipping screw and sleeve. NOTES: Save the shipping screw and sleeve in case you ever want to move the system to another area. You can secure them to the back of the system with a piece of tape. Before you transport the system, be sure there are no CDs in the Cd changer, then re-install the shipping screw and sleeve. SPEAKER PLACEMENT For the best stereo effect, place the supplied front speakers so the distance between them is the same as the distance between the listening area and the point halfway between the speakers. If the distance between the speakers is greater, you can improve the stereo effect by angling the speakers toward you. To increase the bass effect, place the speakers in the corner of the room, against the wall, or directly on the floor. To decrease the bass effect, move the speakers slightly away from the corner, or raise them 6 to 8 inches off the floor. You can purchase speaker stands at your local Radio Shock store. NOTE: In addition to the supplied front speakers, you can also connect another pair of front speakers. You can use either or both pairs of front speakers using the selection switches on the system. Place the center speaker above or below the TV. The center speaker is magnetically shielded to prevent video distortion. However, if the picture on the TV has interference, increase the distance between the TV and the speaker, but insure the speaker remains in line with the TV. Place the surround speakers to the side and rear of the listening area. CONNECTING THE SPEAKERS Each speaker connected to the system's front (A and B), surround, and center speaker terminals must have an impedance of at least 8 ohms. Your local Radio Shack store has a wide selection of speakers. For maximum bass response and best overall performance, connect your speakers so their polarities match (+ with +, and - with -). You can easily make the proper connections by using speaker wire coded to show the polarity. To help you properly connect terminals, one side of each pair of speaker wires is generally marked with a stripe or groove. You can connect one pair (A or B) or two pairs (A and B) of speakers to the FRONT SPEAKERS terminals, one center speaker to the CENTER SPEAKER terminals, and one pair of surround (rear) speakers to the SURROUND SPEAKERS terminals on the back of the system. CAUTION: Do not let the bare speaker wires touch each other. This might damage the amplifier or speakers. Connecting the Front Speakers 1. Press the FRONT SPEAKERS R black (-) and red (+) A speaker terminal tabs. 2. Insert one of the stripped ends of the right front speaker's brown conductor into the black (-) terminal and the yellow conductor into the red (+) terminal, then release the tabs. 3. Press the front speaker's black (-) and red (+) terminal tabs and insert the other end of the brown conductor into the black (-) terminal and the yellow conductor into the red (+) terminal, then release the tabs. 4. Repeat Steps 1-3 to connect the left speaker to the FRONT SPEAKERS L terminals. 5. Repeat Steps 1-4 if you want to connect another pair of speakers to the SPEAKERS B terminals. Connecting the Center and Surround Speakers 1. Press the CENTER SPEAKER black (-) and red (+) speaker terminal tabs on the back of the system. 2. Insert the stripped end of the center speaker's brown conductor into the black (-) terminal and the striped brown conductor into the red (+) terminal, then release the tabs. 3. Press the center speaker's black (-) and red (+) terminal tabs and insert the other end of the brown conductor into the black (-) terminal and the striped brown conductor into the red (+) terminal, then release the tabs. 4. Press the SURROUND SPEAKERS R black (-) and red (+) speaker terminal tabs on the back of the system. 5. Insert the stripped end of the right surround speaker's brown conductor into the black (-) terminal and the striped brown conductor into the red (+) terminal, then release the tabs. 6. Press the surround speaker's black (-) and red (+) terminal tabs and insert the other end of the grown conductor into the black (-) terminal and the striped brown conductor into the red (+) terminal, then release the tabs. 7. Repeat Steps 4-6 to connect the left surround speaker's conductors into the SURROUND SPEAKERS L terminals. CONNECTING THE ANTENNAS When you tune to local AM and FM stations, you can use the supplied indoor AM loop antenna and FM antenna. For better FM reception, connect an outdoor FM antenna.
