Changing Modes: Before changing from one mode to another while the unit is operating, be sure to first press STOP/EJECT. Because only top quality parts are used in the SCT-100, it should require little or no servicing as long as you observe a few basic rules. KEEP THE TAPE HANDLING PARTS CLEAN Keeping the SCT-100 clean, especially the parts that come into contact with the tape surface, is one of the main secrets of long life and maximum fidelity. After a few hours of recording or playback, dust, lint and tape oxide begin to accumulate onto the tape heads, capstans and pinch rollers. Such accumulations interfere with proper tape contact and result in noise, partial "drop-outs" and poor frequency response. To achieve the professional quality the SCT-100 is capable of, the tape heads and other tape handling parts should be cleaned approximately every 20 hours of operation. Radio Shack's Head Cleaning Sticks Cat. 44-1093 and Head Cleaner Solvent Cat. No. 44-1010 are recommended. If you intend to use long playing cassettes (C-120), you must keep your SCT-100 especially clean and properly maintained. These longer cassettes use very thin tape which can easily get caught in the tape handling parts. The best way to avoid this is through proper care of the machine. LUBRICATION This unit has been lubricated at the factory. Additional lubrication is not required. If you think your SCT-100 needs to be lubricated, cleaned or repaired, contact your local Radio Shack store. DEMAGNETIZE TAPE HEADS PERIODICALLY After several hours of use, the tape heads also tend to retain residual magnetism, that introduces unwanted noise into both recordings and playback. To remove this residual magnetism, we recommend using a Radio Shack Tape Head Demagnetizer (Cat. No. 44-1202 or 44-1167). CABINET Your SCT-100 cabinet has been designed to require a minimum amount of care. Use a soft damp cloth and a mild household detergent for cleaning. Do not apply strong solvents, benzine or paint thinner, etc., to the cabinet surface. Tape slack in a cassette can cause trouble by getting caught in the capstan or pinch roller. To avoid this, tightly wind the tape using the slanted edge of six-sided body of a pencil. CAUTION: The unit must be operated on the specified AC voltages only. Failure to do so may result in fire or damage to the unit. Be sure to remove the AC power cord from the AC outlet by pulling the plug itself (not the cord). (PH 10/31/95)
