SCP-73 Stereo Cassette Player (140-1215) Operation Faxback Doc. # 18206 PLAYING A CASSETTE TAPE 1. Set VOLUME to its minimum position. 2. Connect a pair of headphones or an amplified speaker system (see "Using Headphones or Speakers," Faxback Doc. # 18207, Preparation). 3. Gently pull open the cassette compartment cover and insert a prerecorded cassette with its open edge facing out and the side you want to play facing up. Then close the cover. 4. Set TAPE(NORM-CrO2/METAL) for the type of tape you are playing. 5. Set DOLBY NR to IN if you are playing a tape recorded with Dolby NR (see "Dolby Noise Reduction," below). 6. Press PLAY to begin playing the tape. 7. Adjust VOLUME, E-BASS, BASS, and TREBLE to the desired levels (see "Using the Tone Controls," below). 8. To stop the tape, press STOP. USING FAST FORWARD AND REWIND When the tape is stopped, press F FWD to fast-forward the tape or REW to rewind it. To stop the tape, press STOP. CAUTION: When the tape is full rewound to the beginning, press STOP to release REW. USING THE TONE CONTROLS You can use the tone controls to customize the SCP-73's sound. TREBLE - slide the control toward MAX to increase the volume of high tones, or toward NORM to decrease them. BASS - slide the control toward MAX to increase the volume of low tones, or toward NORM to decrease them. E-BASS - slide the control toward MAX to increase the volume of the tones below normal bass, or toward NORM to decrease them. NOTE: If you set E-BASS to MAX, the bass and treble controls have no effect. DOLBY NOISE REDUCTION The SCP-73 uses the Dolby B noise reduction system to lower the level of tape hiss when you play a cassette tape recorded with Dolby noise reduction. When the cassette tape was recorded, the recorder's Dolby B noise reduction circuit "listened" to the program to find places where you might hear tape hiss. The Dolby noise reduction circuit increased the music's volume so these sections were recorded at a high level to cover tape hiss. When you play a Dolby NR encoded cassette tape and set DOLBY NR to IN, the SCP-73's Dolby noise reduction circuit decreases these sections' volume. (PH 11/9/95)
