CD-6500 Compact Disc Automatic Changer (420-5049) Preparation Faxback Doc. # 18299 REMOVING THE SHIPPING SCREW The shipping screw and brass sleeve on the bottom of the CD changer help protect the CD changer from damage during shipment or while moving it. Before you use the CD changer, use a small Phillips screwdriver to remove the shipping screw and sleeve. Be sure to do this prior to connecting the unit to an electrical outlet. NOTES: Save the shipping screw and brass sleeve in case you ever want to move the CD changer to another area. You can secure them to the back of the CD changer with a piece of tape. You must first remove all CDs from the changer before you replace the shipping screw. CONNECTING THE CD CHANGER TO YOUR RECEIVER OR AMPLIFIER CAUTIONS: Do not connect the CD changer to AC power until you complete all other connections. Be sure to follow all the installation instructions described in the enclosed "Safety Instructions." 1. Select a location for your CD changer that is near your receiver or amplifier and a standard AC outlet. CAUTION: Do not place the CD changer on top of the receiver or amplifier or on any other component that gets hot. NOTE: If you place the CD changer near other audio components or their wires, you might hear a hum when you play a CD. Move the components or their wires to eliminate the hum. 2. Plug one end of the supplied audio cable into the CD changer's L (left) and (right) OUTPUT jacks, matching the red plug to the red R OUTPUT jack and the white plug to the white L OUTPUT jack. 3. Plug the other end of the audio cable into the receiver's or amplifier's left and right CD, AUX, or TAPE input jacks. CAUTION: Do not connect the CD changer to the receiver or amplifier's PHONO inputs. NOTE: Be sure to match the left and right plugs on the audio cable with the left and right jacks on the receiver or amplifier. CONNECTING POWER After you have connected the CD changer to your receiver or amplifier, plug the CD changer's AC power cord into a switched AC outlet on your receiver or amplifier. CAUTIONS: Do not plug in the CD changer until you remove the shipping screw and complete all other connections. To prevent electric shock, the plug's blades are polarized and fit only one way. If the plug does not fit easily, turn it over and try again. Do not force the plug into any AC outlet. NOTE: Although you can power the CD changer from an unswitched AC outlet on the receiver or amplifier or from a standard AC outlet, this makes the CD changer automatically turn on when power is restored after a power failure, possibly resulting in unexpected operation. INSTALLING THE REMOTE CONTROL'S BATTERIES The CD-6500'S remote control requires two AA batteries (not supplied) for operation. For the longest life and best performance, we recommend alkaline batteries, such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-557. Follow these steps to install or replace the batteries. 1. Remove the battery compartment cover by sliding the cover in the direction of the arrow. 2. If necessary, remove and discard any old batteries. CAUTIONS: Dispose of batteries properly; do not bury or burn them. Never leave dead or weak batteries in the remote control. 3. Insert two fresh AA batteries in the compartment as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and -) marked inside the compartment. CAUTIONS: Use only fresh batteries of the required size and type. Do not mix old and new batteries. 4. Replace the cover. NOTE: Fresh alkaline batteries last for about 1 year. If the remote control does not work or has poor range, replace both batteries.
