CD-6400 (420-5048) Operation Faxback Doc. # 3373 HANDLING CDS Always hold a CD by its edges and always keep it in its protective case or sleeve when you are not using it. Fingerprints and scratches on the CD's surface can prevent the laser beam from correctly reading the digital information. LOADING AND PLAYING CDS Your CD changer can play standard or 3-inch CDs. Follow these steps to play a CD. 1. Turn on your receiver/amplifier and select the audio input to which you connected your CD changer (for example, CD AUX, or TAPE). 2. Press POWER on the CD changer. The display lights. 3. Press OPEN/CLOSE to open the disc tray compartment. Caution: Do not force the compartment open or closed. You might damage its loading mechanism. 4. Press DISC SKIP until the desired disc tray moves to the front. 5. With the label side up, carefully place the CD in the recessed holder. Notes: If you use 3-inch CDs, place the disc in the middle of the recessed holders. Do not touch the disc tray while it rotates. Do not load more than one CD into each disc holder. Repeat Steps 4 and 5 to load more CDs. 6. Press OPEN/CLOSE to close the disc tray compartment. The CD changer displays the number of the CD in the play position and its total number of tracks. The display's bottom row shows the disc holder numbers, with the holder numbers that contain a CD circled. Press DISPLAY on the remote control to display the CD's total playing time. 7. Press >|| PLAY/PAUSE to play Track 1 of the cd in play position. > appears on the display. After the CD changer plays all tracks on the current CD, it automatically loads the next higher-numbered CD and plays all of its tracks. After it plays all tracks on the highest-numbered CD, the CD changer stops. While a CD plays, the CD changer displays > and the numbers of the current CD and track. Press DISPLAY to see the elapsed time from the beginning of the current track. Note: You cannot select a holder that does not have a disc loaded. 8. To temporarily stop press > || PLAY/PAUSE. > flashes on the display. Press > || PLAY/PAUSE again to resume play. Note: If you suddenly move the changer from a very cold place to a warmer one, moisture might condense on the pickup lens, preventing proper disc play. If this happens, wait 30 minutes before resuming play. CHANGING CDS DURING PLAYBACK You can open the disc tray without stopping the playback. Press OPEN/CLOSE on the CD changer. The tray opens without stopping playback. You can then change the CDs in the front holders. Note: If you press DISC SKIP (or SKIP on the remote control) to rotate the tray, the CD changer stops playing the current CD and starts playing the next loaded CD. SELECTING A SPECIFIC CD To select a CD, use the DISC number button on the remote control; the selected CD starts to automatically play from Track 1. To select the next higher-numbered disc holder, press DISC SKIP (or SKIP on the remote control) during play. The CD changer moves to the next higher-numbered disc holder that has a loaded CD and plays its first track. When the CD changer is stopped, you can also repeatedly press DISC SKIP (or SKIP on the remote control) to select the desired disc holder. Then press > || PLAY/PAUSE to play the CD. Note: You cannot use the DISC SKIP (or SKIP on the remote control) or DISC number buttons during programmed play. SELECTING A SPECIFIC TRACK To select a track, enter the track number using the remote control's TRACK number buttons. To select a two-digit track number, press the second digit within about 5 seconds after you press the first digit. Then press > || PLAY/PAUSE. Or, when the CD is stopped or paused, press ASMS |<< or >>| until the CD- 6400 displays the desired track number. Note: You cannot use the TRACK number buttons during programmed play. AUTOMATIC SEARCH MUSIC SYSTEM Use ASMS (Automatic Search Music System) during play to skip to the next track or to return to the beginning of the current track. Press ASMS |<< once to return to the beginning of the current track. Press ASMS >>| to skip to the next track. You can use ASMS to quickly locate a track during programmed play. Press and hold down either ASMS button until you reach the desired track. Note: If you try to advance past the CD's last track, the changer starts counting again from Track 1. If you try to move to before Track 1, the changer starts counting back from the last track. AUDIBLE SEARCH (Remote Control Only) Use this feature during play to rapidly search forward or backward for a section of a track on a CD. During audible search, the CD plays at a lower volume and a higher speed. To search forward, press and hold down SEARCH >>. Release the button to resume normal play. To search backward, press and hold down. SEARCH <<. Release the button to resume normal play. Note: When you reach the end of the disc during forward search, the changer advances to the next available disc and starts searching. However, you cannot search backward past the beginning past the beginning of a CD. PROGRAMMING A SEQUENCE OF TRACK (Remote Control Only) You can program a sequence of up to 32 selections to play across CDs in any order you choose. The disc tray compartment can be open while you program the sequence, so you can check the tracks of loaded CDs. Follow these steps to program a sequence of tracks. 1. Press STOP to cancel the current function. 2. Press PROG to enter program mode. The CD changer displays PROG and PROG. NO. 1. 3. Press DISC SKIP (or SKIP on the remote control) or a DISC number button to select the CD that contains the first track you want to program. The CD changer displays the selected CD number. 4. Use the remote control's TRACK number buttons or press ASMS |<< or >>| to select the track you want to play. The CD changer displays the selected track number. 5. Press STORE to store the displayed track and CD numbers in the first memory position. The display changes to TRACK 0 and PROG NO. 2. 6. Repeat Steps 3-5 for each track or CD you want to program, up to 32 selections. 7. Press > || PLAY/PAUSE. The CD changer starts to play the sequence. Changing or Adding to the Programmed Sequence 1. Stop the play, if necessary, and press PROG to exit the program play mode. 2. Press PROG again. The contents of program No. 1 appears on the display. 3. Repeatedly press STORE until the track and program numbers you want to change appear on the display. If you want to add a track, press STORE until TRACK 0 and the program number appears on the display. 4. Enter the desired disc number and track number and press STORE. To check the programmed sequence, press PROG to once exit the program play mode. Press PROG again and press STORE to display the sequence. Notes: Press ASMS |<< or >>| during programmed play to move backward or forward through the programmed sequence. You can use audible search during programmed play. You cannot use DISC SKIP (or SKIP on the remote control), the DISC number buttons, or the TRACK number buttons during programmed play. To end programmed play, press STOP then press PROG. PROG disappears from the display and the program is deactivated but remains stored until you turn off the CD changer or open the drawer. To play a stored program again, press STOP to cancel function, press PROG so PROG appears on the display, then press > || PLAY/PAUSE. To review the tracks stored in a program, press PROG to activate the program, then repeatedly press STORE to advance through the stored tracks. To clear the programmed sequence from memory, press POWER to turn off the CD changer or press OPEN/CLOSE to open and close the CD compartment. If you try to program more than 32 selections, the CD changer replaces the 32nd entry with the last selection you program. REPEAT PLAY (Remote Control Only) Your CD changer can repeat a single track, all loaded CDs, or a programmed sequence. To Repeat a Track Before or during play, repeatedly press REPEAT until REP ONE appears on the display. At the end of the track, the CD changer replays the track. To Repeat All Loaded CDs Before or during play, repeatedly press REPEAT until REP ALL appears on the display. If the CD changer is stopped, press > || PLAY/PAUSE. When the CD changer reaches the end of the last CD, it replays all loaded CDs in order. To Repeat a Programmed Sequence After you program a sequence, repeatedly press REPEAT until REP ALL appears on the display. To cancel repeat play, repeatedly press REPEAT until neither REP ALL nor REP ONE appears on the display. RANDOM PLAY (Remote Control Only) You can set the CD change to select and play tracks at random from one or more CDs. Before or during play, press RANDOM. RAND, appears on the display. The CD changer selects tracks at random and plays them. The CD changer continues to randomly select and play tracks until you press STOP. RAND disappears from the display. Notes: The CD changer never selects the same track twice in a row, but might select the same track more than once during the course of random play. You cannot activate random play while a program is activated (PROG on the display). Press PROG to deactivate the program then press RANDOM. (LB/all-01/10/95)
