AM/FM VHF TV (120-0614) Preparation Faxback Doc. # 3692 Pocket Radio CONNECTING POWER You can power the radio using internal batteries. With adapters (not supplied) you can also power it with AC power or your vehicle's battery. Internal Battery Power You can power your radio using three AA batteries. For approximately 60 hours of operating, we recommend alkaline batteries, such as Radio Shacks Cat. No. 23-552. To install batteries, do the following: 1. To remove the battery compartment cover, push down and slide the cover in the direction of the arrow. 2. Insert the batteries, observing the polarity symbols (+ and -) located inside the battery compartment. 3. Replace the cover. Note: Replace the batteries when the radio's sound becomes weak. AC Power To use AC power, the radio requires an adapter that provides 4.5 volts, such as Cat. No. 273-1662. For AC power, follow these steps: 1. Set the adapter's voltage switch to 4.5V. 2. Insert the green-tipped Adaptaplug's black end into the AC adapter cord to read TIP NEG. 3. Insert the Adaptaplug's other end into the DC 4.5V jack at the back of the radio. This automatically disconnects battery power. 4. Plug the adapter into a standard household AC outlet. Caution: The recommended adapter supplies 4.5 volts with the center tip set to negative, delivers the 300 milliamps the radio draws, and its plug properly fits the radio's DC 4.5V jack. Using an adapter that does not meet these specifications could seriously damage the radio or the adapter. Vehicle Battery Power You can use your vehicle's battery to power the radio, if the vehicle has a 12-volt DC, negative-ground electrical system. This connection requires a DC adapter that provides 4.5 volts, such as Cat. No. 270-1560A. To use your vehicle's battery power, do the following; 1. Set the switch on the adapter to 4.5V. 2. Insert the blue-tipped Adaptaplug's black end into the adapter's cord to read TIP NEG. 3. Insert the Adaptaplug's other end into the DC 4.5 V jack on the back of the radio. This automatically disconnects internal battery power. 4. Plug the adapter's cord into the vehicle's cigarette-lighter socket. Cautions: Do not let the DC adapter's plug touch any metal part of the vehicle when you plug into the cigarette-lighter socket. Doing so can damage the adapter and/or the vehicle's electrical system. The recommended adapter supplies 4.5 volts and delivers the correct amount of current for the radio to operate properly. Using an adapter that does not meet these specifications could seriously damage the radio or the adapter. USING THE EARPHONE An earphone is supplied with the radio for private listening. To use the earphone, do the following: 1. Turn the radio's volume down. 2. Insert the earphone's plug into the EAR jack. 3. Place the earphone's other end in your ear and adjust the volume to a comfortable listening level. Warning: Do not listen at extremely high volume levels, especially when using an earphone. Extended high-volume listening can lead to permanent hearing loss. USING THE WRIST STRAP For your convenience, the radio is equipped with a wrist strap. To hang the radio from your wrist, slip the strap over your wrist. (br/all-12/19/94)
