AM/VHF Aircraft Pocket (120-0601) Operation Faxback Doc. # 3698 Portable Radio INSTALLING THE BATTERY AND USING YOUR RADIO 1. Remove the back cover by gently pushing the "OPEN" tab (at the bottom of the case) in and upward. Snap the connector over a 9-volt battery such as Radio Shack's 23-464 or 23-583. Position the Battery inside the Radio and replace the cover. 2. Set AM-VHF switch to the desired band. 3. Rotate VOLume control downward to turn the Radio on. Adjust for the desired level of sound. 4. Adjust TUNE for the desired station. 5. Rotate VOLume upward to turn Radio OFF. NOTES: For AM Reception, you do not need to extend the Telescopic Antenna. The built-in high-efficiency ferrite loopstick antenna will pick up even weak and distant stations. However, you may notice that reception is affected by the position and location of the Radio. Position it for best reception - rotate it or place it near a window if using in-doors. For VHF Reception, extend the Antenna to its full length. The VHF band covers most of the popular and useful Aircraft services. If you live near an Air Traffic Control center or near an airport, you'll find plenty of signals to interest you on this band. Some of the channels may be used somewhat intermittently - in this case, you may have to wait for some time between signal transmissions. For Private Listening, plug the Earphone into the Earphone jack on the side of the radio. If sound becomes weak or distorted, try a new battery. Never leave a weak or dead battery in your Radio. If you are not going to use it for a few weeks, remove the battery. We recommend Radio Shack's Catalog Number 23-464 or 23-583 for extra-long-life. (br/all-12/19/94)
