Chronosette-276 (120-1584) Operation Faxback Doc. # 3769 PLAYING THE RADIO Follow these steps to play the radio. 1. Set function selector to RADIO. 2. Press RADIO ON to turn on the radio. 3. Set AM/FM/FM STEREO to AM or FM STEREO. Notes: The Chronosette-276 has two antennas. The AM antenna is built in. Turn the Chronosette-276 to improve AM reception. For best FM reception, fully extend the telescoping antenna and adjust it to the position that provides the best reception. The FM indicator lights when you receive an FM stereo station. To improve reception for weak FM radio stations, set AM/FM/FM STEREO to FM. The sound changes from stereo to monaural (mono), but the sound quality improves. 4. Turn TUNING to the desired frequency. 5. Adjust VOLUME for a comfortable listening level. 6. Adjust BALANCE and TONE for optimum sound. 7. To turn off the radio, press RADIO OFF or slide the function selection to OFF. USING THE SLEEP FEATURE You can set the radio to play up to 59 minutes and automatically turn off so you can fall asleep as you listen. Follow these steps to use the sleep feature 1. Set OFF/RADIO/ALARM to RADIO. 2. Press SLEEP. 00:59 shows on the display. 3. To set the playing time for 59 minutes, release SLEEP. The radio automatically turns off after 59 minutes. To set the playing time for less than 59 minutes, hold down the SLEEP button.. 4. Release SLEEP. CASSETTE OPERATION You can play a cassette, record from the radio, or make the live recordings. LOADING A CASSETTE TAPE Follow these steps to load a cassette tape. 1. Use your finger or a pencil to turn the cassette's hub and take up any tape slack. 2. Press STOP/EJECT to open the cassette compartment door. 3. Load the cassette with its open edge up and the full reel to the right. The side facing you is the side that plays. 4. Close the cassette compartment door. PLAYING A CASSETTE TAPE Load a cassette as described in "Loading a Cassette Tape." Then follow these steps to play the tape. Warning: To protect your hearing, set VOLUME near its lowest setting before you turn on the tape player. 1. Press RADIO ON. 2. Set the function selector to TAPE. 3. Press PLAY. 4. Adjust VOLUME for a comfortable listening level. 5. Adjust BALANCE and TONE for optimum sound. To rewind or fast-forward the tape, press REWIND or FAST-F. Press STOP when you reach the desired section. Press PLAY to resume normal play. To temporarily stop play, press PAUSE. To resume play, press PAUSE again. Press STOP/EJECT to stop the tape. Press STOP/EJECT again to open the cassette compartment. Note: When the tape reaches the end, the Chronosette-276 automatically stops and releases the tape-handling parts. USING THE SLEEP FEATURE TO PLAY A CASSETTE TAPE 1. Set the function selector to TAPE. 2. Load a cassette tape. (See "Loading a Cassette Tape." 3. Set the sleep time as described in "Using the Sleep Feature." 4. Press PLAY. The tape plays for the set time period and automatically turns off. To manually stop the tape, press STOP/EJECT. When the tape reaches the end, the Chronosette-276 automatically stops and releases the tape-handling parts. RECORDING WITH THE BUILT-IN MICROPHONE You can make live recordings with the built-in microphone. Follow these steps to make a live recording. Note: Before you record, be sure the erase-protection tabs are in place on the cassette tape. To prevent erasing the cassette tape accidentally, remove the erase-protection tabs. 1. Set the function selector to TAPE. 2. Load a blank cassette tape in the cassette compartment. 3. Press RADIO ON. 4. Press RECORD to start recording. RECORD and PLAY lock down. Press STOP/EJECT to stop recording. RECORD and PLAY release. Press STOP/EJECT again to open the cassette compartment door. Note: When the tape reaches the end, the Chronosette-276 automatically stops and releases the tape-handling parts. RECORDING FROM THE RADIO Follow these steps to record radio broadcasts. 1. Set the function selector to RADIO. 2. Set AM/FM/FM STEREO to the desired band. 3. Adjust TUNING to the desired frequency. 4. Load a cassette tape in the cassette compartment. 5. Press RECORD to start recording. RECORD and PLAY lock down. Note: You might hear a pulsating beat in the background of some AM radio recordings. To eliminate the beat, set BEAT CUT before you record form the AM band. First, record a short segment and play it back to listen for the beating sound. If you hear the beat, set BEAT CUT to its other position and resume recording. 6. Press STOP/EJECT to stop recording. RECORD and PLAY release. Press STOP/EJECT again to open the cassette compartment. Note: When the tape reaches the end, the Chronosette-276 automatically stops and releases the tape-handling parts. RECORDING FROM THE RADIO WHILE AWAY Follow these steps to record a radio program while you are out. 1. Set the time you want to begin recording as described in "Setting An Alarm." 2. Set the function selector to RADIO. 3. Set OFF/RADIO/ALARM to RADIO. 4. Press RECORD. At the set time, the radio begins to play and the recorder begins recording. The radio plays for 59 minutes, then automatically turns off. The tape automatically stops when it reaches the end. ALARM CLOCK OPERATION SETTING THE TIME Follow these steps to set the time. 1. Press and hold down TIME SET. 2. While you hold down TIME SET, press and hold down the appropriate FWD or REV button to set the time. 3. Release TIME SET. SETTING AN ALARM The Chronosette-276 has two alarms. You can set the alarms so the buzzer, radio, or tape player turn on at the specified times. Follow these steps to set ALARM 1. 1. Press and hold down ALARM SET The display shows the current alarm time setting and the AM/PM indicator. 2. While holding down ALARM SET 1, press the appropriate FWD or REV button to set the alarm time. 3. Release ALARM SET 1. 4. Set OFF/RADIO/ALARM as follows: ALARM - the buzzer sounds at the set alarm time. RADIO - the radio or tape player sounds at the set alarm time. The alarm indicator lights. 5. Set RADIO/TAPE (RADIO OFF) as follows: RADIO - to turn on the radio. TAPE - to play a tape 6. To set ALARM 2, repeat steps 1 through 5, using ALARM 2 where appropriate. At the set alarm time, the alarm, radio, or tape player sounds for 59 minutes, then automatically turns off. Note: The tape automatically stops if it reaches the end before the 59 minutes pass. You can manually silence the alarm before the 59 minutes pass as follows: Buzzer Alarm - set OFF/RADIO/ALARM to OFF, and then back to ALARM Radio Alarm - press RADIO OFF Tape Player - press RADIO OFF The alarm will repeat after 24 hours. To silence the alarm and turn off the alarm feature, set OFF/RADIO/ALARM to OFF. USING THE SNOOZE FEATURE To temporarily silence the buzzer, radio, or tape player so it sounds, press SNOOZE.
