CD-6600 Compact Disc Automatic Changer (420-5058) Preparation Faxback Doc. # 32149 REMOVING THE SHIPPING SCREW The shipping screw and brass sleeve on the bottom of the CD changer help protect the CD changer from damage during shipment or while moving it. Before you use the CD changer, use a small Phillips screwdriver to remove the shipping screw and sleeve. NOTES: Save the shipping screw and brass sleeve in case you ever want to move the CD changer to another area. You can secure them to the back of the CD changer with a piece of tape. You must first remove all CD's from the changer before you replace the shipping screw. CONNECTING THE CD CHANGER TO YOUR SOUND SYSTEM CAUTIONS: Do not connect the CD changer to AC power until you complete all other connections. Be sure to follow all the installation instructions described in the enclosed "Safety Instructions." Connecting the CD Changer to Your Receiver/Amplifier To operate the CD changer, you must connect it to a receiver or amplifier. 1. Select a location for your CD changer that is near your receiver or amplifier and a standard AC outlet. CAUTION: Do not place the CD changer on top of the receiver or amplifier or on any other component that gets hot. NOTE: If you place the CD changer near other audio components or their wires, you might hear a hum when you play a CD. Move the components or their wires to eliminate the hum. 2. Plug one end of the supplied audio cable into the CD changer's L (left) and R (right) LINE OUT jacks, matching the white plug to the white L LINE OUT jack and the red plug to the red R LINE OUT jack. 3. Plug the other end of the audio cable into the receiver's or amplifier's left and right CD, AUX, or TAPE input jacks. CAUTION: Do not connect the CD changer to the receiver or amplifier's PHONO inputs. NOTE: Be sure to match the left and right plugs on the audio cable with the left and right jacks on the receiver or amplifier. Connecting the CD Changer to a Digital Device You can connect the CD changer to a digital device such as a digital compact cassette deck (Cat. No. 14-675, not supplied) using the CD changer's OPTICAL DIGITAL OUT jack. NOTES: You need a digital audio cable (CMC No. 42-2466) to connect the CD changer to a digital device. You can order a digital audio cable from your local Radio Shack store. Make sure the plug on the digital audio cable will fit into the input jack on the digital device. If it does not, contact the digital device's manufacturer to get the correct digital audio cable for the device. If you do not connect a cable to the OPTICAL DIGITAL OUT jack on the CD changer, leave its protective cover in place. CAUTION: The digital audio cable's plug fits only one way. Do not force it. CONNECTING POWER After you have made all connections, plug the CD changer's AC power cord into a standard AC outlet or a switched AC outlet on your receiver or amplifier. CAUTIONS: Do not plug in the CD changer until you remove the shipping screw and complete all other connections. To prevent electric shock, the plug's blades are polarized and fit only one way. If the plug does not fit easily, turn it over and try again. Do not force the plug into any AC outlet. (EB 4/22/96) (BR 4/3/96)
