CD-3460/3470 Portable CD Player (420-5052/5053) Operation Faxback Doc. # 32200 PLAYING A CD Your CD player can play standard 5-inch or 3-inch CDs that have the COMPACT DISC DIGITAL AUDIO mark on them. 1. Set VOLUME to the minimum level. Be sure HOLD on the back of the CD player is set to OFF. 2. Press OPEN and lift open the disc compartment cover. 3. Carefully place the CD, label side up, over the disc compartment's center hub. Press the button on the hub gently so the CD lies flat in the compartment. 4. Close the disc compartment cover. 5. Press PLAY/PAUSE. The CD player automatically turns on. 00 momentarily flashes on the display, then Track 1 begins to play. The display shows the current track number. Press MEMORY/TIME to display the current track's elapsed time. Press MEMORY/TIME again to display the current track number. 6. Adjust the volume to a comfortable listening level according to these guidelines: If you connected earphones, amplified speakers, or a CD-to-cassette adapter to the CD player's PHONES jack, set VOLUME to the desired level. If you connected the CD player's LINE OUT jack to amplified speakers, your home audio system, or your car stereo's CD INPUT jack, use the volume controls on those units to set the desired volume. CAUTION: This CD player has a wide dynamic range. If you turn up your amplifier's volume too high during soft (low volume) parts of the music, you might damage your speaker when a sudden loud passage occurs. Therefore, set your audio system or car stereo's volume control to the minimum level before you play a CD. After the CD begins to play, slowly increase the volume. 7. To enhance the bass sound, set E-Bass OUT/IN to IN. 8. When the last track finishes playing, the CD player automatically stops, then turns off in about 5 seconds. To stop playing the CD before it ends, press STOP/CLEAR. The display alternately shows the CD's total track number and total playing time for about 5 seconds, then the CD player automatically turns off. LOCKING THE CONTROLS To prevent accidentally turning the CD player on or off, or changing the track you are listening to, set HOLD to ON. No controls (except OPEN) work. Set HOLD to OFF to operate the controls again. AUDIBLE SEARCH Use audible search during play to rapidly search forward or backward to locate a specific section of a track. During audible search, the CD plays at a lower volume and a higher speed. The current track's elapsed time appears on the display. To search forward, press and hold FAST FORWARD. To search backward, press and hold REWIND. Release the button to resume normal play. NOTE: If you hold down FAST FORWARD while the last track plays or REWIND while the first track plays, audible search starts again at the beginning of that same track. SKIP/SEARCH You can use skip/search before or during regular or programmed play to quickly locate any track on a CD. During play, press REWIND to return to the beginning of the current track. Press REWIND again to return to the beginning of the previous track. To move to the beginning of the next track, press FAST FORWARD. While the CD is stopped, repeatedly press REWIND or FAST FORWARD to move backward or forward to the desired track. PAUSE AND CUE To temporarily pause play, press PLAY/PAUSE. The pause indicator flashes on the display. Press PLAY/PAUSE again to resume play. You can also use PLAY/PAUSE to cue a track. When the CD player is stopped, press FAST FORWARD or REWIND to select the track you want to cue. Then press PLAY/PAUSE twice. The pause indicator flashes on the display. To cue a track in a programmed sequence, press PLAY/PAUSE to pause the CD. The pause indicator flashes on the display. Press FAST FROWARD or REWIND to display the track you want to cue. To play the cued track, press PLAY/PAUSE. INTRO SCAN The intro scan feature lets you listen to the first 10 seconds of each track on a CD. 1. Press PLAY/PAUSE to start play. 2. Repeatedly press PLAY MODE until INTRO appears on the display. Intro scan starts from the first track. To end intro scan, press PLAY MODE. INTRO disappears from the display and the CD player resumes normal play with the current track. NOTE: The CD player scans the tracks in the programmed order if you have programmed a sequence (see "Programmed Play"). REPEAT PLAY Your CD player can repeat a single track, the entire CD, or a programmed sequence (see "Programmed Play"). TO REPEAT A SINGLE TRACK - before or during play, press PLAY MODE once so the repeat indicators appear on the display. At the end of the track, the CD player repeats the same track. TO REPEAT AN ENTIRE CD OR A SERIES OF PROGRAMMED TRACKS - before or during regular or programmed play, press PLAY MODE twice so the repeat indicator appear on the display. When the CD player reaches the end of the CD or the programmed sequence, it returns to the first track and replays all the tracks. RANDOM PLAY In random play, the CD plays all the tracks once in random order, then automatically stops. To start random play while a CD is playing, repeatedly press PLAY MODE until RANDOM appears on the display. NOTE: If you select random play during programmed play, the CD player temporarily stops the programmed sequence and starts random play of all tracks. To cancel random play, press PLAY MODE so RANDOM disappears from the display. If you have started random play during programmed play, the CD player restarts the programmed sequence. PROGRAMMED PLAY You can program up to 20 tracks on a CD to play in any order you choose, and program the same track to play more than once. Follow these steps to program a sequence. 1. Press PLAY/PAUSE to turn on the CD player, then press STOP. 2. Within 5 seconds, press MEMORY/TIME. The selection number (01) and the track number (00) appear as MEMORY flashes on the display. 3. Within 5 seconds, press MEMORY/TIME to store the selected track number. The selection number advances by one and the track number on the display returns to 00. 4. Within 5 seconds, press MEMORY/TIME to store the selected track number. The selection number advances by one and the track number on the display returns to 00. NOTE: If you do not press any button within 15 seconds after this step, the CD player automatically turns off and the programmed information will be lost. 5. Repeat Steps 3 and 4 to program up to 20 tracks. NOTE: If you try to store more than 20 tracks in memory, FULL appears on the display. 6. Within 15 seconds, press PLAY/PAUSE to play the programmed sequence. MEMORY lights steadily and the first track in the sequence plays. While the programmed sequence plays, you can use FAST FORWARD to move forward or REWIND to move backward in the sequence. After the last programmed track ends, the CD player stops. You can repeat the program sequence by pressing PLAY/PAUSE within 5 seconds after the CD player stops. Otherwise, the CD player turns off in 5 seconds and clears the programmed sequence. To manually stop the CD before the end of the sequence, press STOP/CLEAR. NOTES: To check the programmed sequence, press MEMORY TIME after you stop the CD player. The display shows the number of the first programmed track. Each time you press MEMORY/TIME, the display shows the number of the next track in the sequence. To add to the end of a programmed sequence, stop the CD player and press MEMORY/TIME until track number 00 appears on the display. Then follow Steps 3 and 4. (YO/all-04/23/96)
