           PROBLEM                                CAUSE/REMEDY

No power to system even with POWER on.      Power plug is not connected
                                            properly.  Check the AC power
                                            cord.

Cassette does not sit properly in           Tape is inserted with the
tape deck.                                  exposed tape facing up.
                                            Insert the cassette tape with
                                            the exposed tape facing down.

PLAY key does not lock in down position.    Tape is at the end of the side
                                            and auto stop is activated.
                                            Remove the cassette and
                                            reinsert it so the other side
                                            faces out.

RECORD key does not lock down.              Plastic (tab(s) on the
                                            cassette have been broken off.
                                            Cover the missing tab(s) with
                                            tape.  Each side's hole must
                                            be covered separately.

Will not record from AM, FM, or CD/AUX.     HI-SPEED DUBBING switch is ON.
                                            Set the switch to OFF.

Tape does not run.                          PAUSE is pressed.  Release
                                            PAUSE.

Tape runs but no sound is heard.            VOLUME is at its minimum
                                            setting.

                                            Adjust the volume.

                                            FUNCTION not set to TAPE.
                                            Select TAPE.

                                            Headphones are connected.
                                            Disconnect.

Cassette sounds weak or distorted.          Dirty record/play head.  Clean
                                            the tape handling parts.  (See
                                            "Cleaning the Tape Deck", on
                                            the Faxback Doc. # 32372).

                                            The external source's volume is
                                            set too low.

Cassette recording is weak and distorted    Dirty record/play or erase
or previous recording cannot be erased.     heads.  Clean the tape hand-
                                            ling parts. (See "Cleaning the
                                            Tape Deck", on Faxback Doc.
                                            # 32372).

Power on but AM or FM does not play.        VOLUME is at its minimum
                                            setting. Adjust the volume.

                                            FUNCTION is not set to AM or
                                            FM.  Select AM or FM.

                                            Headphones are connected.
                                            Disconnect.

                                            Station not tuned.  Tune to
                                            an AM or FM station.
