Mini Stereo Amplified Speaker System (400-0168) Connections Faxback Doc. # 32648 CONNECTING POWER USING BATTERIES You can power this system from four C batteries (two in each speaker). We recommend alkaline batteries, such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-551. Follow these steps to install batteries in each speaker. 1. Lift the tab on the battery compartment cover in the direction of the arrow and remove the cover. 2. Install two C batteries, as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and -) inside the compartment. 3. Replace the cover. 4. Repeat Steps 1 - 3 for the other speaker. NOTE: If the sound becomes weak or the red LED indicator fades, replace the batteries. CAUTION: To avoid damage to the system, remove the batteries if you do not plan to use the speakers for a month or more, or if you plan to use AC or DC power. USING AC POWER You can power the speakers from a standard AC outlet with an AC adapter (not supplied), such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 273-1651. CAUTIONS: You must use an AC adapter that supplies 9 volts and delivers at least 500 milliamps. Its center tip must be set to negative, and its plug must correctly fit the system's DC 9V jack. The recommended adapter meets these specifications. Using an adapter that does not meet these specifications could seriously damage the system or the adapter. Be sure you connect the adapter as instructed, and disconnect the adapter from the AC outlet before you disconnect it from the system. Otherwise, the unconnected plug might touch some metal and damage the adapter. Follow these steps to power the system from an AC outlet. 1. Insert the adapter's barrel plug into the system's DC 9V jack. 2. Plug the adapter into a standard AC outlet. USING VEHICLE BATTERY (DC) POWER You can power the speakers from your vehicle's battery with a DC adapter (not supplied), such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 14-844. CAUTIONS: Your vehicle must have a 12-volt DC, negative-ground electrical system. You must use a DC adapter that supplies 9 volts and delivers at least 500 milliamps. Its center tip must be set to negative, and its plug must correctly fit the system's DC 9V jack. The recommended adapter meets these specifications. Using an adapter that does not meet these specifications could seriously damage the system or the adapter. Be sure you connect the adapter as instructed, and disconnect the adapter from the cigarette-lighter before you disconnect it from the system. Otherwise, the unconnected plug might touch some metal in the vehicle and damage the adapter and/or the vehicle's electrical system. Follow these steps to power the system from your vehicle's battery: 1. Set the adapter's voltage switch to 9V. 2. Insert the barrel plug into the system's DC 9V jack. 3. Plug the adapter's large plug into the vehicle's cigarette-lighter socket. (YO/EB 4/25/96)
