AMX-5 Amplified Speaker System (400-1387) Power Sources Faxback Doc. # 32751 CONNECTING POWER For portable use, you can power the speaker system from internal batteries. Using an optional AC adapter, you can also power it from a standard AC outlet. USING BATTERIES You can power the speaker system from four C batteries (two in each speaker). For the best performance, we recommend alkaline batteries, such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-551. 1. Press the tab on each speaker's battery compartment cover in the direction of the arrow, then lift off the cover. 2. Insert two batteries into each speaker's compartment, as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and -) marked inside the compartment. CAUTION: Use only fresh batteries of the required size and type. 3. Replace the covers. NOTES: If you won't be using the speaker system for a week or more, or if you plan to use it with AC power, remove the batteries from each speaker. If the speaker system's sound weakens or distorts, or the POWER indicator dims during use, replace the batteries in both speakers. CAUTION: Always dispose of old batteries promptly and properly. USING AC POWER You can power your speaker system from a standard AC outlet using a 9-volt AC adapter (not supplied), such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 273-1656. CAUTIONS: You must use an AC adapter that supplies 9 volts DC power and delivers at least 800 milliamps. Its center tip must be set to negative, and its plug must properly fit the speaker system's DC 9V jack. The recommended adapter meets these specifications. Using an adapter than does not meet these specifications could damage the speaker system or the adapter. Always plug the AC adapter into the speaker system before you plug it into the AC outlet. Always unplug the AC adapter from the AC outlet before you unplug it from the speaker system. 1. Set AMPLIFIER to OFF. 2. Insert the AC adapter's barrel plug into the DC 9V jack on the rear of the left (L) speaker. 3. Plug the adapter into a standard AC outlet. CONNECTING THE AUDIO SOURCE You can connect the speaker system to any audio source that has a 1/8 inch headphone or line-out jack. NOTES: Connecting the speaker system to a headphone jack usually disconnects any other speaker(s) connected to the audio source. If the speaker system is connected to a line-out jack, the audio source's volume control has no effect on the speaker system's volume. 1. Set AMPLIFIER to OFF, then be sure that the audio source's power is also turned off. 2. Plug the speaker system's 1/8-inch plug into the audio source's headphone or line-out jack. (YO/all-05/14/96)
