MC-1600 Oiled Walnut Speaker System (400-1989) Connections Faxback Doc. # 32802 CONNECTING THE MC-1600 The MC-1600 is designed to handle up to 55 Watts of continuous music power at 8 Ohms. 1. Make sure your amplifier/receiver is turned off. 2. The MC-1600 is equipped with easy connect push terminals. Use the largest gauge speaker wire possible. We recommend 14 to 18 gauge for distances over 50 feet. We suggest wire made especially for speaker use (such as Radio Shack 16 gauge wire - Cat. No. 278-1384). Never use shielded audio cables to connect speakers. Do not staple or nail speaker wires in place. Simply remove 1/4" to 1/2" of insulation from the end of the wire, press the terminal tab, insert the bare wire, and release the tab. PHASING Proper "phasing" is important when connecting the speakers. Phasing means connecting the terminals on your speakers to like terminals of your amplifier/receiver. To help you with phasing, speaker wire has a special marking on one of its conductors. This mark may be a ridge or colored stripe along the insulation of one conductor. Or, the insulation might be clear and the actual wires will be two different colors - silver and copper. In any case, connect the marked wire between the + on the amplifier/ receiver and the + on the speaker; then, connect unmarked wire between - and -. Improper phasing will diminish the performance of your speakers, especially the bass response. After you have connected the wires to the appropriate terminals, check each of the connections carefully. There should be no tiny strands of wire touching the metal chassis or another terminal.
