MC-1600 Oiled Walnut Speaker System
(400-1989) Operation Faxback Doc. # 32803

SETTING THE RECEIVER CONTROLS

1. Set the volume control to minimum.

2. Set the balance control to its center position; center all tone
    controls.

3. Make sure the speaker selector switch is set to the position where
    MC-1600 speakers are connected.

4. Be sure the Tape Monitor is off.

5. Turn the loudness switch off (if you have one).

6. Now turn on your system.

Select FM and tune to a strong channel in your area. Slowly increase the
volume to a low, but comfortable level. Go to each speaker and listen
carefully. They should be equally loud and clear.

SPEAKER PLACEMENT

The position of speakers has a great effect on their bass response. Placing
a speaker on a shelf or table, against a wall increases bass slightly. A
position in a corner or on the floor will increase bass more. For maximum
bass response, place the speaker on the floor and in the corner position.

With stereo systems, the distance between the two speakers is important,
too. Too great a distance causes a "hole" in the middle of the sound; too
small a distance decreases stereo effect. For best results, the distance
between the speakers should be about two-thirds of the distance between the
speakers and the main listening area.

If the speakers must be further apart, angling them into the listening area
might produce a better effect. A little experimentation will reveal the
best set-up for your room and system.

Use a stereo frequency equalizer (cat. no. 31-2000 or 21-1988) if the room
has large flat surfaces, many open doorways, or an irregular shape. Prevent
speaker damage or amplifier clipping by using a power meter if you play
your system at high volume.
