Push the RECORD and PLAY buttons down firmly at the same time. RECORD light will glow. 10. Set the RECORD LEVEL Meters as described below. During average passages the meter pointer should move up to about "-5" on the scale. 11. You are now ready to start your recording. Press and release the PAUSE button. 12. The unit will record the entire tape and shut off unless you desire to stop it by pushing the STOP or PAUSE button. Press the PAUSE button to temporarily stop tape movement if you change your recording selection, cue a record or retune a radio station. Press PAUSE button again and release when you are ready to resume recording. While you are recording you may monitor the program either by listening to the speakers or with your headphones. Adjust the VOLUME control for proper listening level. 13. After the cassette has stopped, place all cassette function buttons in the up position or remove the cassette. This will prevent the tape from becoming distorted, affecting the reproduction. To erase a tape, set SELECTOR to TAPE and without microphones or other external signal source, run the tape through in the Record position. This will erase the tape clean. Or, you can use a Bulk Tape Eraser (available from Radio Shack). There is no need to erase previously recorded material if you are going to make a new recording on a tape that already has some material on it - as the new recording is made, the old is automatically erased. SING ALONG FEATURE A special feature of the Recorder is the ability to Record from mics EVEN WHILE ANOTHER SIGNAL SOURCE IS ACTIVE. For example, you can be playing disc recording - plug in mics and load and record a cassette cartridge through MIC jacks - and not interrupt the phono sound (which is still being played through the speakers and reproduced on the recording). The Mics are now picking up your voice - as well as the sound from the speakers. Adjust VOLUME to provide a good background level of sound - and you can sing along with the phono signal. If you want lower background sound level, adjust VOLUME. This can be a very useful feature. For you can "sing along" with AM, FM or PHONO signal and add another "part" to the music recording. Or, you can use this feature to add background music to a voice/dramatic recording. You should realize that the MIC and recording function is entirely separated from the rest of the signal circuitry. When you plug in mics, you are not defeating the remainder of the system. If you want to turn off the rest of the system, set SELECTOR to TAPE. ERASE PROTECTION Each cassette has provision to prevent accidental erasing of pre-recorded material. On the back of a blank cartridge are two breakout tabs which must be in place to engage an interlocking device before the RECORD button will depress. If these tabs have been removed such as purchased pre-recorded cartridges, the RECORD button will not depress. To record on a cartridge in which one or both breakout tabs have been removed, place a piece of tape over the exposed holes. This will allow the interlocking device to engage. Once you have completed recording on a blank cartridge, you can prevent accidental erasing by breaking out and removing the tabs. (YO/EB 5/3/96)
