Clarinette-96 3-Piece AM/FM Compact Stereo w/Cassette Tape Player/Recorder, Full Auto-Changer (130-1203) Care and Maintenance Faxback Doc. # 32850 MAINTENANCE AND SERVICE ADJUSTMENTS PRECAUTIONS To keep your unit sounding its best for many years, follow these practices: Store your records and tapes in a cool area to avoid damage from heat. Keep your records, free of dust and finger marks by cleaning them regularly with a record cleaning kit available at Radio Shack. Keep records stored in their protective jackets. Periodically remove dirt and lint from the needle with a small soft brush. Replace the needle when the stylus becomes worn. Your Radio Shack store can check the condition of your old needle for you, and has a new replacement needle available. For quick service, locate the model number on the bottom of your unit and give this information to your store salesperson. NEEDLE REPLACEMENT REFER TO MODEL NUMBER LABEL LOCATED ON BOTTOM OF UNIT FOR THE RADIO SHACK STOCK NUMBER FOR THE REPLACEMENT CARTRIDGE OR NEEDLE ASSEMBLY. Replacement of a worn needle/stylus can be easily accomplished as follows: 1. Raise the tone arm. 2. Grasp the needle/stylus selector shaft, gently lift the needle shaft from the yoke, and slide needle out from its retainer. 3. To replace, slide the base of the needle under its retainer until it snaps in place, and seat the needle shaft in the yoke of the cartridge. Rotate the needle/stylus selector to make sure it is properly seated. Set the selector to LP for playing all records except those of 78 RPM speed (then use 78 position). CLEANING The finish on the Receiver may be cleaned with a dust cloth and cared for as other furniture. Use caution when cleaning and wiping the plastic parts. Mild cleaners, such as dishwashing detergent with a dampened cloth may be used on the front panel. Periodic cleaning of the pressure roller, capstan, play/record and erase heads is necessary to maintain good reproduction of sound. The buildup of iron oxide particles, which is often even more severe with inferior tapes, will reduce the performance of the tape. it is recommended that after every 10 hours of use, or more often if playback has deteriorated, to clean the play/record and erase heads. To clean, use a cotton swab moistened with a head cleaner solution or isopropyl alcohol, then wipe dry with a soft, clean cloth. NOTE: Never use any metal objects on or near the tape head. Do not allow any cleaning material to fall into tape assembly. Do not use carbon tetrachloride as a cleaning agent. DEMAGNETIZING THE HEADS The heads should be demagnetized periodically after cleaning. Use a standard head demagnetizer and follow manufacturers instructions. Do not place your recorded tapes near the demagnetizer with power applied. SERVICE ADJUSTMENTS NOTE: This changer has been accurately preadjusted for correct needle set down, needle pressure and tone arm height. If new adjustments should ever be needed, make them with a 12" record; adjustments will then be correct for all sizes. NEEDLE SET DOWN The set-down position of the needle on the record is adjusted by the needle set-down adjustment. This adjustment is for obtaining correct set-down of the tone arm to the record on all size records. Proper adjustment will allow the tone arm to set down on the record 1/8 inch from the outside edge. ANTI-SKATE ADJUSTMENT This adjustment is pre-set at the factory for maximum performance with the supplied cartridge and needle. However, if the tone arm skates on the record, adjust the ANTI-SKATE knob until the tone arm is stabilized. TONE ARM HEIGHT To raise, turn adjustment counterclockwise; to lower, turn adjustment clockwise. Adjust to 1/8 inch clearance between the tone arm and tone arm rest when cycled. NEEDLE PRESSURE ADJUSTMENT To increase needle pressure, turn needle pressure adjustment counter clockwise. NOTE: For an accurate needle pressure setting, you must use a needle pressure gauge.
