XTS 23 MINI SPEAKERS (400-0231) Connections Faxback Doc. # 34778 Your local Radio Shack store has a wide selection of speaker wire. We recommend you use color-coded or marked wire to help you correctly connect the wire. Color-coded wires have a stripe running down one side of the conductors. Marked wire have ridges along one of the conductors. With the speakers in their approximate locations, measure the distance from each speaker to your receiver / amplifier. Use 18-gauge speaker wire (not supplied) for distances up to 50 feet. Use 16-gauge speaker wire (not supplied) for distances greater than 50 feet. 1. Separate the wire's two conductors at both ends for a length of about 4 inches. 2. Strip the insulation from the ends of each conductor to expose 1/4-inch of metal wire and twist the loose strands together. 3. Connect one end of the colored or marked conductor to your receiver / amplifier's right positive (+) terminal and the same end of the other conductor to the receiver / amplifier's right negative (-) terminal. 4. Route the speaker wire to your right speaker. 5. Press down the red tab below right speaker's positive (+) terminal, located on the back of the speakers. Insert the other end of the colored or marked conductor into the opening, then release the tab. 6. Follow the same procedure to connect the plain or unmarked speaker wire to the right speaker's negative (-) terminal. 7. Repeat Step 1-6 to connect the left speaker. NOTE: For maximum bass response and best overall performance, connect your speakers so they are in phase with the amplifier (+ to + and - to -). (YO/EB 9/30/96)
