System 713 (130-1260) Using the CD Player Faxback Doc. # 7827 CD TIPS Even though a compact disc is more durable than a record, you should handle it with care. Always hold the CD by its edge. In extreme cases, fingerprints and scratches on the CD's surface can prevent the laser from correctly reading the digital information. Always keep the CD in its protective case or sleeve when you are not using it. Keep the CD dry. A water drop can act as a lens and affect the laser beam's focus. LOADING AND PLAYING A CD Your CD player can play either 3- or 5-inch compact discs. 1. Press CD. The CD indicator lights. 2. Press OPEN/CLOSE to Open the CD compartment. 3. Carefully place the CD label-side up in the recessed part of the compartment. 4. Press OPEN/CLOSE to close the CD compartment. The display shows the total number of tracks and CD's total playing time in minutes and seconds. The number of boxes on the display's right side also indicates the number of tracks on the CD. Caution: Never force the CD compartment door to close. You might damage the CD player's loading mechanism or the CD. 5. Press PLAY/PAUSE to start track 1 and play all the tracks in order,> appears on the display, and the track number and the track's elapsed time appear in the window. When each track ends, its numbered box disappears. Notes: You can press +10 to go to the beginning of the 10th track regardless of whether or not the disc is playing. Press PLAY/PAUSE to stop the CD temporarily. A double bar appears on the display. Press PLAY/PAUSE again to resume play. 6. The CD stops automatically when it reaches the end. Press STOP to stop playing the CD before the last track finishes. 7. Press OPEN/CLOSE to open the CD compartment and remove the CD. SEARCH To search forward on the CD, press and hold SEARCH >> during play. The time counter advances, and you hear the CD at a faster speed and a lower volume. Release SEARCH >> to resume play. To search backward on the CD, press and hold SEARCH << during play. The time counter reverses, and you hear the CD play backwards at a lower volume. Release SEARCH << to resume play. SKIP SKIP lets you quickly locate the beginning of any track on the CD. You can use SKIP before or during play. Press SKIP >>| or |<< repeatedly until the display shows the number of the track you want to play. The CD player starts playing at the beginning of the selected track. Note: If the disc is already playing, pressing SKIP |<< returns to the beginning of the current track. RANDOM PLAY Press SHUFFLE to listen to the CD tracks in random order. SHUFFLE appears on the display. Press SHUFFLE again to stop random play. SHUFFLE disappears from the display. INTRO To listen to the first 10 seconds of each tracks, press INTRO while the CD player is stopped. When you hear a track you want to listen to, press PLAY/PAUSE. PROGRAMMED PLAY You can program up to 16 racks on a CD to play in any sequence. 1. Press STOP/CLEAR so the display shows the total number of tracks and the total playing time in minutes and seconds. 2. Press PROGRAM. PROGRAM and 00P-01, the memory location for the first programmed track, appear on the display. 3. Press SKIP >>| or |<< to display the track number you want to program. (For example, if you cant to program track 2 into the first slot, press >>| twice. 4. Press PROGRAM again to program the track and have the next memory location appear. 5. Repeat Steps 3-4 for each track you want to program. Notes: If you program more than 16 tracks, you begin replacing the currently programmed tracks with the mew ones. After programming a track, press PROGRAM repeatedly to review the tracks you have already programmed. 6. Press PLAY/PAUSE. The CD player plays the tracks in the order you programmed. Notes: Press PLAY/PAUSE to temporarily stop the music. Press it again to start from where you paused. Press STOP/CLEAR and then PLAY to start playing the sequence again from the beginning. Press SKIP >>| and |<< to move through the programmed sequence during play. 7. To clear the program memory when the tracks finish playing, press STOP/CLEAR. If tracks are still playing, press STOP/CLEAR twice. REPEAT To repeat the current track, press REPEAT during play so REPEAT appears on the display. When the current track ends, it plays again. To repeat the entire CD, press REPEAT until REPEAT ALL appears on the display. When the CD reaches its end, the entire CD replays. Note: If you have programmed a sequence, REPEAT ALL replays your programmed sequence. To cancel repeat play, press REPEAT until REPEAT ALL disappears from the display. TIME DISPLAY Pressing DISPLAY during play shows you various pieces of information about the tracks and playing time. The original display shows the number of the current track and the amount of time elapsed since the track began. Pressing DISPLAY once shows the CD's remaining number of tracks and the total remaining playing time. Pressing it twice shows the total number of tracks and the total playing time.
