System 713 (130-1260) Using the Cassette Player Faxback Doc. # 7828 USING THE CASSETTE PLAYER You can play one side of a cassette tape in either cassette deck, and record tapes in Deck 2. LOADING AND PLAYING A CASSETTE TAPE 1. Press TAPE to play a cassette tape. The TAPE indicator lights. 2. Open either cassette compartment by pressing STOP/EJECT. 3. Load the cassette with the open end down, the full reel on the left, and the side you want to play facing you. Note: We recommend C-30, C-60, and C-90 tapes. Avoid using C-120 tapes which are thin and can easily get tangled in tape mechanisms. 4. Close the cassette compartment door until it clicks. 5. Press PLAY. Note: Press PAUSE to temporarily stop the cassette player. To resume play, press PAUSE again. 6. Adjust VOLUME, E-BASS, BALANCE, and the FIVE-BAND FREQUENCY EQUALIZER for the desired sound. 7. The cassette stops automatically when it reaches the end. Press STOP to stop tape play sooner. Note: When the tape ends, turn it over to listen to the other side. Fast-Forward/Rewind Press FAST-F or REWIND to fast-forward or rewind the cassette. To stop fast forward or rewind before the end of the tape, press STOP. Using Consecutive Play You can play one side of a cassette in Deck 1 immediately followed by one side of a cassette in Deck 2. 1. Load the cassette you want to play first into Deck 1 and the one you want to play second into Deck 2. 2. Press PLAY on Deck 1. 3. Press PAUSE and PLAY on Deck 2. The cassette in Deck 1 plays. When it reaches its end, the cassette in Deck 2 plays. To stop consecutive play before the tape player stops itself, press STOP on both decks. DUBBING AND RECORDING The system 713 can dub (copy) another tape, or it can record from the radio, CD player, or an auxiliary unit. Note: VOLUME, E-BASS, BALANCE, and the FIVE-BAND FREQUENCY EQUALIZER settings do not affect the contents of your recording. The system automatically adjusts those levels. Dubbing A Cassette Tape You can dub at the tape's normal playing speed or at twice normal speed. If you listen at normal speed, you hear what you record. Note: To record a cassette, its erase-protection tabs must be in place. See "Erase Protection." 1. Press TAPE. 2. Load a blank cassette or one you want to record on into Deck 2. The side you want to record on should face you. 3. Load the cassette you want to record from into Deck 1. Be sure the side you want to record is facing you. Notes: The cassette you are recording onto should be of equal or longer length than the cassette you are recording from. Press HI SPEED DUBBING/FM MONO/BEAT CUT in to dub at approximately twice the normal speed. For the highest quality results, use normal-speed dubbing. If you do not want to listen when you dub at normal speed, turn VOLUME to MIN. 4. Press PAUSE and RECORD on Deck 2. RECORD and PAUSE both lock down. 5. Press PLAY on Deck 1. Dubbing begins. Note: To skip an unwanted section during normal-speed dubbing, press PAUSE on Deck 2 while the unwanted section plays. To resume dubbing, press PAUSE again. 6. Dubbing stops automatically when the cassette in Deck 2 reaches its end. If the cassette in Deck 1 continues to play, press STOP. To stop dubbing before Deck 2 stops automatically, press STOP on both decks. (LB/all-10/21/94)
