Set FM ST/FM/AM for the desired band. Set it to FM ST for stereo sound on FM stations. 4. Adjust L/R VOLUME controls to a comfortable listening level. 5. Turn TUNING to select the desired radio station. Notes: For best FM reception, fully uncoil the headphone's (or speaker's) cord. The AM antenna is built-in. Move the SCP-47 to improve AM reception. To improve reception for weak FM stereo stations, set FM ST/FM/AM to FM. To return to stereo sound, set it to FM ST. To turn off the radio, set TAPE/RADIO to TAPE (RADIO OFF). CASSETTE TAPE PLAYER OPERATION LOADING A CASSETTE TAPE Follow these steps to load a cassette tape. 1. Take up any slack in the cassette tape by turning the hub with a pencil. If you do not remove excess slack, the tape might become tangled in the record/play mechanism. Avoid touching the tape. 2. Pull open the cassette compartment door. 3. Insert a cassette tape into the cassette guides so the open edge faces up and the full reel is toward the volume control. 4. Close the cassette compartment door. USING ANOTHER POWER SOURCE With the proper adapter, you can operate the SCP-47 from an AC outlet or your vehicle's cigarette-lighter socket. Using AC Power To power the SCP-47 from an AC outlet, you need an AC adapter (not supplied), such as Cat. No. 273-1654. Caution: You must use an adapter that supplies 3-volts DC power and delivers at least 200 milliamps. Its center tip must be set to negative, and its plug must properly fit the SCP-47's DC 3V jack. Using an adapter that does not meet these specifications could damage the SCP-47 or the adapter. Follow these steps to power the SCP-47 from an AC outlet. 1. Set the adapter's voltage switch to 3V. 2. Attach the adapter's black-rimmed barrel plug to the adapter's cord to read TIP NEG. 3. Insert the plug into the SCP-47's DC 3V jack. This disconnects the internal batteries. 4. Plug the adapter into a standard AC outlet. Using Your Vehicle's Cigarette-Lighter Socket You can power the SCP-47 from your vehicle's cigarette-lighter socket. This connection requires a DC adapter, such as Cat. No. 270-1560A. Cautions: The vehicle must have a 12-volt DC, negative-ground electrical system. To protect the vehicle's electrical system, always plug the adapter into the SCP-47 before you plug it into the cigarette- lighter socket. Always unplug the adapter from the cigarette- lighter socket before you unplug it from the SCP-47. You must use an adapter that supplies 3-volts DC power and delivers at least 200 milliamps. Its center tip must be set to negative, and its plug must properly fit the SCP-47's DC 3V jack. Using an adapter that does not meet these specifications could damage the SCP-47 or the adapter. Follow these steps to power the SCP-47 from your vehicle's cigarette-lighter socket. 1. Set the adapter's voltage switch to 3V. 2. Attach the orange-rimmed barrel plug to the DC adapter's cord to read TIP NEG. 3. Insert the plug into the SCP-47's DC 3V jack. This disconnects the internal batteries. 4. Plug the adapter into the vehicle's cigarette-lighter socket. (br/all-02/23/95)
