SCP-52 (140-1092) Care and Maintenance Faxback Doc. # 9831 CLEANING THE TAPE-HANDLING PARTS Smoke, dust or particles from cassette tape coating can accumulate on the tape-handling parts. This greatly reduces the cassette player's performance. We recommend you clean the tape-handling parts once every 20 hours of operation. Disconnect the power adapter and remove the batteries. Then press PLAY to expose the capstan, pinch roller, and tape head. Clean these parts with a cotton swab dipped in tape-head cleaning solution. When you finish, press STOP to release the tape-handling parts. Radio Shack stores sell a complete line of cassette player cleaning accessories. DEMAGNETIZING THE TAPE HEAD For the best sound quality, we recommend you demagnetize the tape head once every 10 hours of use. Use a tape head demagnetizer (available at your local Radio Shack store) and carefully follow the instructions. CARING FOR THE CASSETTE PLAYER The Radio Shack SCP-52 Auto Reverse Stereo Cassette Player with Bass Boost is an example of superior design and craftsmanship. The following suggestions will help you care for the cassette player so you can enjoy it for years. Keep the cassette player dry. If it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately. Some liquids contain minerals that can corrode electronic circuits. Use and store the cassette player only in normal temperature environments. Temperature extremes can shorten the life of electronic devices, damage batteries, and distort or melt plastic parts. Handle the cassette player gently and carefully. Dropping it can damage the circuit boards and cause it to work improperly. Keep the cassette player away from dust and dirt, which can cause premature wear of parts. Wipe the cassette player with a damp cloth occasionally to keep it looking new. Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or strong detergents to clean the cassette player. Modifying or tampering with the cassette player's internal components can cause a malfunction and might invalidate its warranty. If your cassette player is not performing as it should, take it to your local Radio Shack store for assistance. (br/all-02/28/95)
